This was the film that established Mani Ratnam as a director of some standing. The theme can be seen in many of his later films, notably Nayagan. The same goes for many of the characters and their idiosyncrasies. Highlights are Satyaraj's performance and Ilayaraja's scintillating music.

A very good movie. Very very very underrated movie and lead actor MURALI.
The movie flopped and also critically not well acclaimed. Unbelieveble!!
Industry morons politics at play just because of a debutant director and not a star lead actor.
Overall good story script music screenplay casting and direction.
