Incoherent sleep-inducer

Elsa Yeung and Brigitte Lin star in this movie, and have practically no fight scenes (a shove here and there doesn't count). Let me repeat this: Elsa Yeung and Brigitte Lin, two female action stars, have practically no fight scenes in an action movie. I don't know whose bright idea that was, but if there was a Movie Police, he should be arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. As a matter of fact, there is very little action of any type in "Phoenix The Raider", which means there is little to compensate for the incoherent, boring screenplay (by the extremely prolific Godfrey Ho) and the poor direction. In other words, this plays like a typical cheap action film, but with all the good parts taken out. At least we get to hear Ennio Morricone's classic "Once Upon A Time In The West" theme again! * out of 4.

Too complex for its own good..

Like the first guy to post a comment, I have bought the Danish VHS of this called "Dynamitpigen" (translated as "The Dynamite Girl", which doesn't make sense since there's no dynamite whatsoever in this movie).

The plot revolves about two almost identical women and their many almost identical male friends and partners whom they hang out with. Somebody's boyfriend has been murdered, and one of the women suspect the other for killing him. Then she gets some help from some police-friends, whom I can't tell apart (all medium-sized Asian guys with ugly mullets).

The only things to look for in this movie are: 1) A car filled with people (they say there's nine in it, but I highly doubt that) is picked up by a crane and thrown off of a cliff.

2) A dirt-bike/motorcycle/BMX/whatever climbs 90 degrees straight up of a wall when the driver hits a dead end on the run from a cop. Nice going, but does he succeed in escaping? No! The cops just runs him down instead.

and 3) Hmm, I think that's about it, actually.. there weren't many highlights in this flick, although the leading character (Venus Lin) is supposedly a Chinese Superstar.. that might turn somebody on?

I bet there was a good and complex script beneath it all, but it was very confusing and totally incomprehensible for an untrained eye/ear who couldn't tell the different characters (and similar dubbings) apart.

Oh, and by the way.. this movie is scripted by a guy called "Benny Ho", who very well could be Godfrey Ho! For that reason alone, it has an important part in Z-grade martial arts history.

There is absolutely nothing about this movie I can recommend. There is a limited story, but no action, no suspense, no comic relief, it´s just one and a half hour of bad dubbing. one of the worst and most boring Hong Kong movies I ever seen, not recommended, stay away. This film makes even Godfrey Ho look like Orson Welles.
