Great cast in a rather pointless tale

Warning: Spoilers
An underpaid schoolteacher (Charles Dance) gets a new job as the private tutor of a bright, attractive 19-year-old-girl (Amanda Root), the daughter of a very rich couple (Trevor Howard and Claire Bloom). Tensions arise, however, when the "black sheep" of the family, the son, returns home with his pregnant wife.

The fourth episode of the "Time For Murder" series has the most distinguished cast so far, and they all give fine performances (Claire Bloom, in her mid-50s, is tres elegant), and the flashback structure in interesting (we don't even know who's dead until two thirds of the way through), but when everything is revealed, the whole story seems kind of pointless. It's still definitely better than "Mister Clay, Mister Clay", though. ** out of 4.

Not good sadly.

Sarah is all set for Oxbridge, but needs help, that comes in the form of James Latimer. Sarah has wealthy parents, who soon spot a match, the happiness is spoiled when a murder occurs.

This feels very different to the other episodes I've seen, bizarrely I liked the music in this one, it's been woeful in the others, but here I thought it was good. Sadly the production values are poor, it looks very cheaply made, the lightning strikes look shocking.

The major plus here, the cast, Charles Dance and Claire Bloom both have sheer quality, both make it watchable, but neither are stretched. Amanda Root is ok, although the hysteric scenes are poor.

Worst of all, the story, it doesn't have any body, it's uninteresting and very wishy washy. I've seen four, and think this is the weakest of the quartet, two to go.

Poor, 5/10.
