Acting debut of Rene Russo.
Director Gary Sherman had to put post-production of the movie 'Poltergeist III' on hiatus to shoot the pilot of this show. During the series, Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne of 'Poltergeist III') passed away and Gary had to redo the ending of the film.
There were several differences between the show and the source material. In the comics, Jon was not a wanted man. Mike Blackman was Sable's love interest in the comics and portrayed more serious than on the show. In the comics, he adopted the alias Flemm because he was initially disgusted at the idea of writing children's books. TV censors would not permit it to be used due to the connotations. He kept the two aliases separate because he was concerned that if people knew who he was it would effect the sales of his books.
Rocker Gene Simmons originally owned the rights to the development of the original comic and played Jon Sable in the pilot before being replaced due to his touring schedule and (per Simmons himself) "the fact that he wasn't very convincing in the role".
