Zachary Levi will star as NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner in “American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story.”
The film, from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story, is expected to begin production later this year. Brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin will direct and produce.
Warner played in the NFL from 1994 to 2008, and is regarded as one of the top undrafted players in NFL history. He was a two-time NFL Mvp, Super Bowl Mvp and Hall of Fame quarterback. The screenplay is based on interviews with Warner, as well as his memoir, “All Things Possible: My Story of Faith, Football, and the First Miracle Season.”
“Kurt’s story is one of relentless faith — in his own abilities but even more so in a higher power,” said Levi. “When I read Kurt’s story, I identified with the quiet strength he found to persevere – that’s something I think anybody can recognize in their own lives.

Singer-songwriter Natalie Prass covered Dionne Warwick’s 1979 ballad “Deja Vu” for Spotify’s Single series. In a recent episode of the podcast Under Cover, she explained the breezy R&B classic was a childhood favorite that had a profound affect on her future career as a singer.
Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, Prass’ father gave her the Warwick record on her fourteenth birthday. She was immediately struck by the catchiness of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s songwriting and particularly, the opening lick and groove of “Deja Vu.” Bacharach once...

The creative process is a wily beast. One day a writer thinks they have their story completely mapped out and then Bam! A stray thought turns into a stray subplot which turns into a research rabbit hole to make it fit with the lore which ends up undoing the structure of the third act entirely and now it has to be rebuilt. So you would think “Mad Max Fury Road” — with its extended development time — would be nigh unrecognizable from the original idea kernel George Miller started with. You’d think wrong. It took Miller over a decade to birth “Fury Road.” It was a labor of love chronicled in the book “The Art of Mad Max Fury” by Abbie Bernstein.* Spanning nearly 200 pages, the book walks you through the creative process, starting all the way back in 1997 with the mythology — hand written by George Miller — that would anchor the film.

Though Steven Soderbergh's Haywire failed to catch fire at the box office, everyone agreed that debuting star Gina Carano established herself as a force to be reckoned with. And now the former Mma fighter will star in the action-thriller In the Blood, according to The Hollywood Reporter. John Stockwell is set to direct. Stockwell, himself a former full-time actor who first sat in the director's chair for 1987's Under Cover, parlayed the success of 2001's teen romance Crazy/Beautiful into a pretty decent career as the helmer of Blue Crush, Into the Blue, and Turistas. None of those are particularly original, but they show a distinctive flair for mainstream entertainment, even when the script lets them down. Unfortunately, Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston, the...
