Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is poised to serve the quintessence of the spacefaring franchise: The voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise—albeit during the captaincy of James T. Kirk’s immediate predecessor, Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). The Paramount+ series—spun off from Star Trek: Discovery—has announced the start of its production and revealed its primary cast. Interestingly, one newcomer in particular bears a noteworthy resemblance to a forgotten character from original Star Trek pilot “The Cage,” whose general era this series will showcase.
An announcement by Paramount has officially welcomed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast members Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill), Jess Bush and Melissa Navia. However, the characters this new quintet will portray have yet to be revealed. While the majority of the diverse bunch do not seem to line up with established characters from “The Cage,” blonde-haired,...

John G. Avildsen, the Oscar-winning director of Rocky and The Karate Kid, died Friday in Los Angeles following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81.
Avildsen’s son Anthony confirmed the filmmaker's death to the Los Angeles Times, adding that Avildsen died at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Actress Molly Ringwald agreed to play the worried mum of an expectant teen in a new TV drama to remind America that unplanned pregnancies are still a huge problem.
The flame-haired star played a teenage mum-to-be in 1988 film For Keeps and, now 40, she's tackling the subject matter again in The Secret Life of The American Teenager.
She hopes the new project will prompt young girls and their mothers to communicate with each other better - so a few unplanned pregnancies can be avoided.
She explains, "Not all that much has changed. If you look at the movies I did... I played a teen mom. There were drugs in (1985 film) The Breakfast Club. There's all that insecurity... All the same issues are still there. It's all about communication."...
