Storyline

When Mary Ashley (Jaclyn Smith) is approached to become Ambassador of the United States of America in Romania, she does not take the offer, because her husband does not want to give up his well-going doctor's office. Shortly afterward, Dr. Edward Ashley (David Ackroyd) gets killed in a car accident. After this, Mary reconsiders the offer, and finally accepts. Arriving in Romania, she is confronted with a complex plot, in which U.S. President Paul Ellison's (Michael Moriarty's) current plans to improve relations between the U.S. and Communist countries shall be sabotaged. Goofs

The name of the Romanian intelligence service Securitate is consistently pronounced to rhyme with English 'wait'. The correct Romanian pronunciation would have the "tate" bit pronounced so as to more or less rhyme with English "what", as well as the final "e" is also pronounced. Surely something that US embassy staffers in Bucharest would know. See more »

Fast, exciting...thriller a'la Sheldon's books....
22 February 2004 | by speedo68See all my reviews

This is one of the best adaptation of Sidney Sheldon's books. It's fast, exciting, great locales, appealing characters and enjoyable from start to finish.

This is Smith's first foray in this genre. Her on-screen chemistry with "Mr.Cool" himself, Robert Wagner is one of the reasons why this miniseries works.

An all star cast miniseries.
