Robert Hays starred in this brief sitcom set at a public radio station. The setting was pretty good (and similar ones have been used several times since) and the cast was unusually strong, but this failed because of two major weaknesses. One was Robert Hays himself. He is handsome and likable, but in a bland way, at least on the surface. Even his greatest comedic success, his role in "Airplane," derived a lot of the laughs by juxtaposing farcical elements on a generically appealing stereotype. The other shortcoming of "FM" was even more basic: it wasn't very funny. Patricia Richardson and DeLane Matthews had previously co-starred in "Eisenhower & Lutz."
