The Lyceum Theatre, at which this revival of "Our Town" was staged and taped for television, is the oldest theatre still in use in the United States.
The original Broadway production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder opened at Henry Miller's Theater on February 4, 1938, ran for 338 performances and won the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1938.
Eric Stolz was nominated for the 1989 Tony Award (New York City) for Supporting or Features Actor in a Drama for "Our Town" as George Gibbs and recreated the role in the filmed production.
The production was nominated for five Tony Awards on Broadway, and received one for Best Revival. Spalding Gray, who played the Stage Manager, received notably bad reviews for his performance, and was not nominated. He speaks about his experience in the play in his monologue film, "Monster in a Box".
