NBC was unsure whether to renew the series for a second season. By the time the network decided to renew it, Michael McKean, Andy Lauer and several members of the production staff had already committed to other projects.
The series was originally planned to have hour-long episodes due to its soap opera format.
Michael McKean revealed that he was fired from the show on the October 3, 1991 edition of The Late Show with David Letterman.
After the 1st season of Grand ended in May 1990, NBC stared to air Seinfeld. This was to save the viewers from reruns of a short-lived show.
