My review was written in March 1990 after watching the movie on Republic Pictures video cassette.
This compact thriller, shot three years ago with moniker "Deathstreet USA", is reviewed for the record following its home video release.
Pic has sci-fi overtones, as heavy Brion James (made up as an albino here) executes a warfare experiment using the people of the tiny town of Canyonland as guinea pigs. A chemical is put in their water, driving the folks crazy.
Wings Huaser is vacationing with his wife Kimberly Beck. She samples the water and goes nuts (in a hammy, funny scene straight out of acting class), Sheriff George Kennedy locks her up and teams up with Hauser and down-on-his-luck ex-cop Bo Hopkins to find the bad guys and keep the craziness under control. When Kennedy is put out of commission, his pretty daughter (and fellow cop) Kimberly Ross takes over.
Film benefits from excellent stunt work and a good score by high-profile team of Stanley Myers ("Deer Hunter") and Hans Zimmer ("Rain Man", "Driving Miss Daisy"), who've frequently worked for filmmaker Nico Mastorakis. Weakest element is when Hopkins does a plot recap for the duller members of the audience halfway through the pic.
