Producer Larry A. Thompson planned to expand the movie into a three-part trilogy that delved further into the lives of Lucy and Desi, but the ratings weren't what the network hoped for so plans for subsequent films were scrapped.
Lucie Arnaz was very much outraged by the portrayal of her parents in this movie believing that the makers of it didn't really go into explaining the reasons behind the couple's tumultuous marriage. This prompted Arnaz and her husband, 'Laurince Luckinbill', to create the Emmy Award-winning, Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie (1993), in 1993 which gave a lot of insight into the Ball-Arnaz marriage.
John Wheeler (William Frawley) previously appeared in the film musical 'Mame' which starred the real Lucille Ball in the title role.
