Sex & Nudity

  • Several women are shown topless making drugs, breasts visible.
  • A woman is shown in her bra and thong panties.
  • A sex scene, the woman is seen from the back.
  • There's a short but sexy pool scene.
  • Some sexually explicit dialogue, as there's a lot of sex in this movie, but not to the point of obscene.
  • A man holds a gun to a naked man's head. He is shown nude from behind.

Violence & Gore

  • Just a gory, brutal movie altogether, and assuming there's an uncut version, that might just be NC-17 altogether in content, like violence, language and sex, an abundance of all three being in this movie already.
  • A man is thrown from a bridge.
  • A man is shot in the ankle, blood sprays.
  • A gang invades an apartment building and terrorizes the residents.
  • A man with dreads is shot in the head from the side at point blank range, graphically shown as brain matter flies out the other side
  • A man is stabbed through the hand with a sword-cane, but not much blood is shown.
  • A man is hit over the head with a bottle.
  • A man's throat is cut, no visible blood but done with a very loud sound effect of the knife cutting through flesh and bone.
  • Mobsters armed with machine guns fire upon unarmed victims, several people are hit with bloody bullet wounds shown.
  • Five men are gunned down in a drive-by shooting, bloody bullet wounds shown.
  • Two men fight and one is beaten quite badly then thrown off a fire escape.
  • A man is shot in the chest, blood sprays and he then falls from a staircase onto the floor below.

Profanity

  • Non-stop hard R profanity. Definitely earned its 18 rating in the UK.
  • Cinemax content advisory for this movie: rated R for graphic violence (GV), graphic language (GL), nudity (N), and adult content (AC)
  • Cinemax content advisory for this movie (February - June 1994): rated R for graphic violence, graphic language, brief nudity, adult situations, and adult humor.
  • Copious R-rated profanity (most of it from Ice T's character), 40 of "fuck" "shit" "motherfucker" etc. Women are constantly referred to as "bitches". A few racial slurs for blacks is used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The entire movie is based around gangsters manufacturing and selling crack cocaine, including depictions of crack smoking and addiction.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Rated R18+ ( Occasional Graphic Violence, Graphic Course Language, & Drug References )
  • This movie set the stage for darker hood movies, like "Fresh," "Deep Cover," "Belly" and "New Jersey Drive." Almost no light moment in this clearly hard R movie. And the opening scene of Nino throwing a man off the bridge, so non-qualm-ly, is extremely chilling. 99% of the movie is just dark, murderous in nature. There is also a real sense of dread that Nino might go unpunished.
  • The atmosphere of the movie is violent.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Nino shoots his brother in the head, blood sprays.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The assassination attempt in which Wesley Snipes' character uses a little girl as a human shield may be considered intense/frightening to some viewers. The entire movie centers around gang violence and drug wars.
