The school building that they shot some of the exterior shots was William McKinley high school in Chicago, IL. Walt Disney attended McKinley High for a short period from 1917-18 and worked on the school's newspaper as the cartoonist, before dropping out at the age of 16 to join the US Army. Because he was too young, the US Army did not accept him, so he joined the Red Cross.

Frank Price's first producer credit on a feature film. He had been known throughout the 70's and 80's for his tenures as the head of Columbia and Universal. This was to be the first of a production deal at Columbia, after Jon Peters and Peter Guber replaced him during his second stint running Columbia. After Gladiator suffered a crushing defeat at the box office, Price formed his own studio, Savoy Pictures.
