Menswear never looked so good
Rogue-3227 August 2005
Caught this last night on cable (the Encore channel, with no commercials - sweet), and I was impressed with how decently it held up, considering it was produced well over ten years ago. Smooth performance from Ms. Shepherd, some good dialog, a serviceable plot, subtle humorous touches, all that - but the most appealing aspect of the show was her stylin' wardrobe, mostly comprised of menswear, stunningly put together (not unlike Ms. Shepherd herself).

Surprised that this wasn't a series; it definitely had all the elements in place, including (but not limited to) the always charming Charlie Schlatter as her computer geek sidekick. I can think of a lot of less pleasurable ways to spend a couple of hours on the couch.

Watchable TV Mystery
FilmCriticBoy26 March 2008
I saw this movie five minutes ago on best Croatian TV channel called Nova TV.I am not a fan of Cybill Shepard,to be perfectly honest I almost never heard of her. This was a mystery movie about private detective Samantha Weathers. This movie was not a mystery to me because I could predict the development and the plot since the beginning of the movie. It would be important to know that this movie isn't an unforgettable mystery,it is not a masterpiece, but it has it's charms. The direction and acting in the movie are OK,slightly better then average, and the dialogs are pretty intelligent. The music in the movie was classical jazz.I am not a jazz fan,but the music in this movie was quite entertaining to me.This is not a must see movie but if you are really bored and you don't have anything smart to do you can watch this semi entertaining movie with cute dialogs and decent acting. It is not a bad movie, but it is definitely not a perfect movie. If you are willing to not to look at the flaws of this movie(low budget, cliché's,predictable movie) you shouldn't watch this. But if you can just relax and enjoy the movie this movie could be good popcorn fun for you.

Stormy Weathers is a rather formulaic 80/90s action comedy that falls short in every aspect
kevin_robbins5 November 2023
I recently watched Stormy Weathers (1992) on Tubi. The storyline follows a private investigator hired to unravel an inheritance issue but instead stumbles upon murder and corruption. She might have bitten off more than she can chew...

Directed by Will Mackenzie (Family Ties) and featuring Cybill Shepherd (Taxi Driver), Kurt Fuller (Ghostbusters II), Diane Salinger (Batman Returns), Robert Beltran (Night of the Comet), Zelda Rubinstein (Poltergeist) and Philip Baker Hall (Boogie Nights).

Unfortunately, there's very little that stands out in this movie, except for how annoying Cybill Shepherd's performance is. The storyline is overly cliché and lacks imagination. The action scenes fall short and have a made-for-television feel (because it was made for television). The humor and one-liners fail to land, leaving little to enjoy about this film.

In conclusion, Stormy Weathers is a rather formulaic 80/90s action comedy that falls short in every aspect. I would rate this a 2/10 and suggest skipping it.

Cybil and the Chevelle
sbb319 February 2004
This is an enjoyable lady gumshoe movie. Decent casting, fair plot, nice locations, some snappy dialogue and a great "396" Chevy Chevelle convertible. Her driving the car with or without her hat on the CA coast is worth watching if nothing else! I wish she could have made at least a season of these mysteries.

Stormy Weathers

I couldn't agree more with the other reviewer of Stormy Weathers. This TV movie was excellent, and had such potential to be a great series, if not a series of 2 hour movies at least. I'm not sure what happened, bad ratings or whatever... although I have to tell you that both times this was on in my area, we had horrible storms (no pun) and the cable was knocked out, both times for a short while...odd! That would definitely affect the ratings. Oh well, I hope this film will make it to DVD, w/ commentary please! Cybill Shepherd not only looks fantastic (the hair is perfect!) she seems very at ease and relaxed in the role and is a joy to watch. You really don't want it to end, which is why a series would have been awesome. If you've never watched this fun, breezy, female detective flick...do so whenever you have the chance!

Cybill at her best.

Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this movie on Encore's Mystery channel I had no clue who Cybill Shepherd was. I was impressed though as Cybill made her way through Stormy Weathers as Sam (Samantha) Weathers, a private investigator for Weathers and Weathers investigation. Weathers and Weathers consist of Sam, the other Weathers is her dead dad, and she just kept the business and obviously the title. Everything in this movie fits not only Cybill, but her character right down to a science. From her men's clothing right down to her little hammerless revolver pistol, it all screams Sam Weathers. I was shocked when I found out it didn't make it to a series. It was rumored that Stormy Weathers was suppose to be a pilot for Cybill in her own crime drama series called Stormy. It was apparently just a rumor, or the pilot (Stormy Weathers) took it nowhere. But this movie has all the elements of a good, at least decent, crime drama. You have the investigator, (a female- which there were only a couple to begin with- Stormy Weathers for one and Kathleen Turner in V.I. Warshawski are the only ones who come to mind) a decent plot, a couple chase scenes, good fighting scenes (Sam knows karate), characters that actually look and act like they belong in a crime drama, and, when the plot unfolds it's not confusing. You find on the contraire it's very entertaining. 10 outta 10 for the movie, double that for Cybill.
