An After-school episode for the times!
Sylviastel6 December 2009
I was surprised by Meredith Baxter Birney's recent announcement about her sexual orientation. In this after-school special, most of them were filmed in the New YOrk City area but this one was filmed in Los Angeles. The episode centers around a teen-age boy played by Wil Wheaton and his mother played by Joanna Cassidy and her partner played by Meredith Baxter Birney. They play involved lesbian mothers who want to be involved in their son's basketball and other activities like other mothers and fathers. The special is scaled down. Don't expect much. Anyway, Cassidy and Birney did a nice job and so does Wheaton too and Joe Regalbuto.

What kind of an ending is that?
BigFlax7 October 1999
Warning: Spoilers
This "movie" is about a high school freshman whose "parents" are his mother and her lesbian life partner and all the trouble it causes him once people at his new school find out. He's made into an outsider as his basketball coach and best friend turn on him, and his "parents" are loathed by all the other parents. But if the movie ends where our health teacher stopped it and said "That's the end", none of the conflicts are resolved.

WARNING - POSSIBLE SPOILER (Though I doubt it)

The movie ends with the kid deciding he's going to be okay with his "parents" being gay. But he's still at odds with his best friend, and he's sitting on the bench when a couple weeks before he would have been starting. Nothing gets resolved at all. What kind of an ending is that? The worst part is I initially thought the coach was played by Patrick Duffy but then we figured out it's just the guy from "Boy Meets World."

What I thought of this movie.

There is not much to say about this movie, we saw it in health class.Overall I thought it was a pretty good movie, however when rating it i only gave it 4 stars. The biggest problem i have with this movie is the ending. The well made movie with decent acting was cut serverelly short. In fact its much worse than just falling off a cliff. its as though the plot took a turn and went smack into a wall. In the end when you review the events NOTHING was solved! this movie needed at least a half hour more.

For those who haven't seen it it is about a young basketball playing freshman in high school, who happens to have two lesbian mothers. the obvious happens and the rest of the high school doesn't seem to accept them. but in the end they go to a basketball game and... oh wait thats it isn't it?
