Fans were surprised by Olivia Newton-John and Norm Macdonald’s absence from the Emmys 2022’s In Memoriam segment.
The Australian actor and singer, best known for her leading role as Sandy in Grease, died in August of this year from breast cancer. She was 73.
While Newton-John was mostly a film actor, she appeared in a number of television shows, including Australian singing series Kommotion, 1993’s drama series Snowy River: The McGregor Saga, and the one-season 2008 show Sordid Lives: The Series.
Meanwhile, viewers were confused by Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald’s absence from the night’s tributes.
However, the Saturday Night Live alum passed away in 2021 and was honoured during last year’s award ceremony. This year he received three posthumous nominations for his Netflix special Nothing Special, which was partly why fans were shocked not to see him in the in memorial segment – unaware that he was celebrated last year.

While there were a handful of repeat champions and first-time winners during Monday (12 September) night’s ceremony, there were certainly a number of snubs and surprises as well.
Christina Ricci misses out to Julia Garner
After Julia Garner won her third Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Ozark, fans were quick to suggest that Yellowjacket’s Christina Ricci was robbed of the category’s win.
Succession does well – but not as well as it could have
Meanwhile, Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen was a pleasant surprise, scoring his first Emmy win as Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The British actor prevailed over co-stars Nicholas Braun and Kieran Culkin, The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup, and Squid Games’ Park Hae-soo.
However, the HBO family drama,...

As Jock Blair reflects on a 55-year career as a writer, producer and production and development executive, he identifies the two biggest changes he.s witnessed in the screen industry.
One relates to money, the other to creativity.
.It.s incredibly difficult to finance production,. says Blair, who retired last week after 11 years as director . development at Screen Queensland.
.Television drama is now very conservative as networks are playing it safe,. he tells If. .In the 1980s things were pretty wild and you could produce things you can.t do now. As an industry we seem to have lost our edge creatively..
Blair initially joined Sq.s predecessor, the Pacific Film and Television Commission, for six months to help out in development but he liked the role so much he stayed.
He is proud to have helped the careers of multiple creative types and companies including Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield...

Screen Queensland has appointed Jo Dillon, formerly a development executive at Screen Australia, in the new role of head of development and production.
This co-incides with the retirement of director-development Jock Blair after a career spanning more than 40 years, and the departure of production investment and business development executive Catherine Nebauer.
Nebauer is leaving mid-August to become general manager of ZooMoo, billed as the world.s first kids channel dedicated to animals, launched by David Haslingden.s Beach House Pictures and Nhnz.
Dillon starts at Screen Queensland on August 25 and Blair steps down on August 1.
.As Screen Queensland continues to work with industry to grow a healthy and sustainable industry, Jo.s experience with creative and thoughtful leadership will provide exactly what the industry is asking for,. said CEO Tracey Vieira.
Vieira tells If that Dillon is a new addition to the executive ranks and she will hire replacements for Blair and Nebauer.

Hughes (born on July 29, 1952, in Melbourne) was 61. Wendy Hughes’ film career kicked off in the mid-’70s, with Tim Burstall’s psychological drama ‘Jock’ Petersen / Petersen (1974), in which she plays the wife of a college professor who becomes romantically involved with a married student (Jack Thompson). "I spent a lot of the time naked and doing sex scenes," Hughes would later recall about her work in ‘Jock’ Petersen, "because in the seventies you all had to do that." In 1979, Hughes landed a key supporting role in the international arthouse hit My Brilliant Career, Gillian Armstrong’s late 19th-century-set tale of an independent-minded young woman (a Katharine Hepburn...
