Peter Jackson was offered the chance to direct the movie, but he turned it down.
Adam Marcus was originally attached to direct My Boyfriend's Back (1993) for Touchstone Pictures, but the studio's parent company, Walt Disney Studios, did not want to hire a first-time director. Marcus was dropped from the project and Bob Balaban was brought on as director. To make it up to Marcus, producer Sean S. Cunningham let Marcus direct Jason Goes to Hell (1993) even though he was only 23.
