- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: There is nothing more mean and ugly in this world than to have a loving gift, a beautiful spirit, and a desire to give and share these things when there is no one to share them with.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: I never lie. A lie is a black hole that grows deeper and deeper, getting blacker and blacker, swallowing everyone who happens to stumble into it, then when all are consumed by it, friends, loved ones, family, all, do you know what happens?
- Bonnie Nelson: What?
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: It turns into a great black beast, which turns on its creator and devours him - or her.
- Bonnie Nelson: [tremulously] I never lie, either.
- Bonnie Nelson: [after her singing lesson] Well, how was it?
- Hans: Excellent!
- [Ribaldi lunges a songbook at him and it hits Hans in the head]
- Hans: Why, I never!
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: No, you should never. NEVER!
- [Hans stands up and leaves]
- Bonnie Nelson: You shouldn't be so rude to Hans.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: Perhaps, but this is not the point. The point is you are not allowing the sound to abstract. The tip of the tongue should be drawn towards the top of the lower teeth. So it cannot produce backtrapping of the vocal cords.
- [he hits a key on the piano and Bonnie demonstrates his theory]
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: Very good.
- [starts playing the piano]
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: I'll try to be better with Hans.
- Bonnie Nelson: I'm a good singer! You wouldn't know a singer if it sang you to sleep! You have no heart, do you? No feelings! You're ugly inside and out!
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: Ugly? Ah, that is a word I know the meaning of well.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: [to Porter] I think that you love your father and you hate the way you feel. Change the way you feel!
- Tommy: You dirty fat pigs!
- Dallin Avery: [puts hand on Tommy's shoulder and grits teeth] Hi, Tommy.
- Dallin Avery: I don't know what you boys were thinkin'. Them pigs are like people too. They just can't talk like you and me.
- Tommy: Pigs are people too, huh, Pa? We just can't understand them?
- Dallin Avery: Ye-... no!
- Kathleen: Oh Bonnie, did you hear about the state solo finals?
- Bonnie Nelson: I haven't heard anything about it, when is it?
- Kathleen: Oh I'm sorry, you weren't invited were you. You have to be one of the best, sorry.
- Bonnie Nelson: Someday I'm going to teach that Kathleen a lesson of good manners.
- Bonnie Nelson: [upon entering the auditorium] Wow! It's like a church.
- Hans: In many ways it is a church. So at least it will not frighten you, but inspire you.
- Bonnie Nelson: Thanks.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: [Talking to Porter] There is nothing more mean and ugly in this world than to have a beautiful gift, a loving spirit, and a desire to give and share these things when there is no one to share them with.
- Gordon: [Porter arrives and goes up to Gordon] Hey, son.
- [he notices that Porter is worried]
- Gordon: What's wrong?
- Porter: Georgie hasn't come home from school yet.
- Gordon: Well, where is she?
- Porter: I don't know. I've been searching all over. Mom's out looking right now.
- Gordon: Come on.
- Papanickolas: [stops Gordon at the door] Gordon, your little, Georgie, she's a-missin'?
- Gordon: Yeah
- [walks off]
- Papanickolas: Hey, that's not a-good.
- [to the others]
- Papanickolas: Hey, we've got to help them. Come on!
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: [sees Georgie at the doorway] Hello, Georgie.
- Georgie: [quietly] Hello.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: What can I do for you?
- Georgie: [pause] Can you teach me to sing? Like you taught Bonnie?
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: Do your parents know you're here?
- [Georgie lowers her head but Ribaldi lifts her chin]
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: Some day I will teach you to sing, Georgie, but it is not this day.
- Ribaldi/Rigoletto: [laughing] You sing like a goat!
