Boring Adult soap opera
lor_16 August 2023
This rather bland Couples Movie from director Eric Edwards and writer Jerry Ross seems rather quaint 30 years later. Its soap opera story, loaded with voice-overs as characters express their true desires, plus very boring subplots, listless line readings and languorous pacing is vanilla porn -way out of step with audience tastes. I sort of enjoyed its relentless defying of porn conventions.

Marc Wallice has a law firm with three oversexed secretaries, and after a pointless opening reel that seems almost cryptic in not getting to the point, he and Tom Byron finally get down to swappng, with stars Jeanna Fine and Chris Collins their partners.

Rebecca Bardoux has a strong masturbation scene, her romance with Wallice's weepy client Todd (played by Sean Ryder) dreamed about but left unrealized. The other two secretaries make lesbian love.

What's missing here is any dramatics, usually the key element of a successful soap opera. Endlessly talky Ross script is easy enough to follow, but never creates tension between the characters or generates interest in them. I want character-driven, story porn, but not a stillborn example like this one.
