Gun
I figured I’d start the list off with a game that will make pretty much everyone go “hey I played that game when I was younger!” Gun is that game because pretty much anyone that has shown even the slightest bit of interest in the Wild West genre has explored the open world of Gun. The game did everything you could potentially love with an open world environment: wild west gunfights, bandits, and you can even hunt wild animals. There were so many finely tuned features all throughout the game that you could be addicted to it for days.

It’s surprising how little the gaming industry makes use of the rich source material found within the historical Wild West. The time of cowboys, saloons, six shooters and tumbleweeds is a goldmine of interesting characters, both good and bad, not to mention settings and storylines. In fact, it’s almost a shame that we don’t get many Western-inspired video games these days, although it could be said that the lack of over-saturation is a good thing. Then again, at least some companies have been attempting to pay homage to that era, providing us with a limited amount of great and memorable experiences like Sunset Riders, Red Dead Redemption, Gun and the above-average Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. There aren’t too many to speak of, of course, but this very week has added one new title to that list of notables. That would be Call of Juarez: Gunslinger,...

Sony has announced that this week’s PlayStation Plus update will let you live out all your repressed cartoon-stuntman fantasies (well, maybe not all of them), as Hello Games’ Joe Danger 2: The Movie is added to subscriber’s Instant Game Collection. Considering that a ride on Joe’s various stunt-vehicles normally runs a cool $15, the free price tag for Plus members is a pretty sweet deal.
With Spec Ops: The Line going free last week, Joe Danger 2: The Movie hitting PlayStation Plus members tomorrow, that leaves Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (Ps Vita), Tekken 6 (PSP/Vita), and The Cave (PS3) as the remaining Instant Game Collection additions this month.
If Joe Danger is not your style, Sony also announced that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to grab a 20% discount off the 2D beat ‘em up Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Ultimate Edition. This new edition packs in...

Sony announced two new PlayStation Network programs this week, “Psn Day 1 Digital” for the U.S. and “PS3 Essentials” for Europe.
Starting in October, Psn Day 1 Digital will let PS3 owners in the U.S. download select new game releases on the same day that they launch in retail stores. Unfortunately, the program does not allow consumers to pre-download the titles prior to launch day (hopefully we are baby stepping towards that goal), however, it will give PlayStation Plus members a 10% discount when they pre-order select titles.
Psn Day 1 Digital kicks off officially in October with the following eight games:
Resident Evil 6 - (Available for download on October 2nd – $59.99) NBA 2K13 - (Available for download on October 2nd – $59.99/$53.99 for Ps Plus members, with pre-order) Dishonored - (Available for download on October 9th – $59.99/$53.99 for Ps Plus members, with pre-order) Doom 3: Bfg Edition - (Available for download on October 16th – $39.99/$35.99 for Ps Plus members,...

Dead Island
Xbox 360 I PS3 I PC
Developer: Techland
Publisher: Deep Silver
Release Date: September 06, 2011
Ever since the release of that incredible first cinematic trailer, fans of horror video games and the zombie sub–genre have been frothing at the mouth to get their hands on the latest title from developer Techland (Call of Juarez and its two sequels, Bound in Blood and The Cartel) and publisher Deep Silver, Dead Island.
The game takes place on the island of Banoi at a beautiful vacation resort. Unfortunately, the beauty is quickly diluted by pure hell when a plague breaks out, turning most of the tourists on the island into bloodthirsty zombies and leaving you to fight to survive and try and escape the many horrors you'll encounter.
But does the game live up to all the hype created by that first trailer, or does it fall a little short?

Chicago – Rarely have I played a game more frustrating than “Call of Juarez: The Cartel.” It’s far from the worst game of the year. It’s not even the worst game of the season. But it’s underdeveloped, disappointing, and sometimes plain broken when it could have been something truly great. This is a game that should have worked and there are elements that do but the overall title never quite comes together.
Video Game Rating: 2.5/5.0
The last “Call of Juarez” title was the surprisingly-enjoyable “Bound in Blood” in 2009. The Western-themed shooter didn’t change any of the rules but worked on its terms and was a lot of fun for fans of the genre. Naturally, one would expect a follow-up to be a similar experience. One would be wrong. “The Cartel” moves its action to present-day Los Angeles and basically changes the entire structure of the game outside of shooting people.

Not too long ago a game set during a zombie outbreak called Dead Island took the online world by storm when a hauntingly beautiful cinematic trailer arrived online. That trailer alone almost sold most of us on wanting to play the game from Techland, the team behind westerns Call of Juarez and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, but we would all need to see some solid gameplay to really commit.
If you haven't noticed yet this has been a pretty gameplay-friendly E3 convention, showing off a lot of the games we've known were coming. So of course we were going to finally get a good long look at Dead Island and what it's bringing to the table. In fact, it was just before E3 that the first extensive look at the gameplay was released, so we're a little behind the times.

A new video game trailer has hit the web, and it has a lot of people buzzing.
The trailer is for a game called Dead Island, and it's about zombies. It's developed by Techland, the team behind two personal favorites of mine: Call of Juarez and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. The game has been in development for multiple years now, but with the release of this new trailer, Dead Island is officially on the radars of gamers everywhere.
Every once in a while a trailer really stands out for one reason or another, and this is one of those times. It's a cinematic, so no actual gameplay is shown, but it's presented in an almost Memento-esque short story format. It also hits an extremely dark point that very few others would have the nerves to showcase, and it's this point that is all but guaranteed to strike an...

Before Red Dead Redemption arrived, very few western games existed, let alone ones that could be enjoyed. Red Dead took it to an entirely different level -- something that western fans have been itching to get their hands on for a long while now -- but before its arrival only a couple were worth even trying out, including Gun and the duo of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
The Call of Juarez games and Gun certainly aren't anything that were bound for video game supremacy, but if you're as much of a sucker for westerns as I am, they're a ton of fun. Great western settings, stories, and of course music, were all that was needed to offer up a worthwhile gaming experience in the old west.
When Red Dead did arrive and showed how incredible and magnificent a western game could be, one could have assumed that it...

"Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood" was an awfully entertaining summer 2009 release from developer Techland. The Wild West setting looks just right and the game's Chrome Engine 4 gives your guns and the bullets they fire a real sense of heft and power. Today Ubisoft revealed the next chapter in the "Juarez" series, "Call of Juarez: The Cartel," which moves from the previous two games' Wild West setting to the streets of present-day Los Angeles.
The fun only starts in Los Angeles of course. Ubi's none-too-revealing press release does state that the action eventually moves to Juarez, Mexico. Given the way the last game ended (spoiler alert), I think it's reasonable to expect some sort of treasure-hunting adventure from "The Cartel," though that title certainly indicates that the South and Central American drug trade could also play a part.
