Questions for an update of all parties, including the children
scribeam4 January 2014
I read this book many years ago, and was wondering whatever happened to the young boy who was severely injured? Who raised the two children of Kerry and Janet, and how are they today? Do they have a relationship with their dad? Has anyone ever come clean about the true details to this crime? How did the parents of the beautiful Janet fare after her murder? Are her parents still alive? Whatever happened to Bill's wife and son?

I know this happened back in the 1980's; I was in my 20's and living on the East Coast when this occurred. I remember seeing the two men appear on an episode of Maury (Povich) after Kerry and Bill were arrested and I had written to the show for a copy of the transcripts, but never received a response. In any event, the book was well written and I would love to see the movie if it is available on DVD. It's an absolutely fascinating case and one that remained with me for all these years due to the twists and turns and the characters in this horrific murder.

Murder between Friends wasn't factual in the least
kingsleyjn13 January 2009
I was friends with Kerry and Janet Myers and Bill Fontanille. I knew all three for years and can say without reservation none were portrayed in this movie as they were in real life. All three were intelligent college educated people with responsible jobs. The day after this movie was first shown in New Orleans the local paper ran a two page outline listing the blatant discrepancies between the actual individuals and the movies' characters. In the article the movies' producer said they were under no obligation to portray the Myers and Bill in any fashion other than the way they chose to portray them. Bill's attorney, a former football player at the University of Alabama, was played by an actor seemingly attempting to channel Truman Capote. The movie is nothing more than fiction using the names of real people while promoting itself as factual. One of the worst made for television movies I have ever seen.

There is little doubt, 25 years latter, Kerry Myers murdered his wife and attempted to place blame on an innocent Bill Fontanille. Dr. Henry Lee now says the DA's office withheld information that would have cleared Bil of any wrong doing. So sad, but I am happy to report Bill is free and enjoying great success in his life.

Splatter Pattern
sol-kay19 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Without even knowing just who's responsible for the baseball bat murder of Mrs. Janet Mayers and the braining of her 4 year old son Tommy you just know right in your gut that something just isn't right with what your seeing. Picking up Bill Fontalill, the prime suspect in Janet's murder, at the local hospital with a near fatal stomach wound the police thought that the case has been wrapped up and solved lock stock and barrel; they were wrong dead wrong.

Bill a good friend of the deceased, Janet, husband Kerry had had his own marital troubles when, we see this all in flashback, his wife Susan walked out on him. Completealy losing it Bill not only wrecked his house but quit his job and checked out of the city and state; New Orleans LA. Coming back to New Orleans unexpectedly some months later Bill seems to be a changed man rekindling his friendship with both Kerry and his wife Janet. It's the time that Bill showed up on the scene and the horrific night that he ended up in the hospital, and later in prison where he was charged with murder, is the key to what really happened in Janet's Myers brutal murder; a murder so vicious and graphic that I was surprised that it was shown on regular TV!

The slam dunk that the New Orlean Police and D.A, John Thorn, thought that the Myers/Fontanill case was going to be didn't quite materialize. Kerry Myers story, describing his wife's Janet's murder, had holes in it that were so big that you can drive an 18 wheeler through. Bill taking the stand told an entire different story from what his ex-friend Kerry told the judge & jury; it was in fact Kerry not him who's the murderer!

Going to the jury the verdict comes back deadlocked, 6 for 6 against conviction, with the state deciding to have Bill re-tried for the Janet Myers murder, as well as the brutal assault on little Tommy. One thing that strikes you about this entire case is that both defendant and accused, Kerry & Bill, in their testimony never mentioned seeing the victim, Janet Myers, beaten to death in fact they never saw her at all!

Something that only in real life could happen "Murder between Friends" is so far fetched, yet true, that your left wondering if what you saw you really saw when it's finally over! D.A Thorn preparing his case, the re-trial, against Bill Fontanill is startled to see that Kerry, one of Bill's victims, was actually inside the house before Bill was! This destroys his entire case against Bill Fontanill!

Slowly back-tracking Thorn starts to see that both Kerry as well as Bill had a lot more in common then just being connected as a victim and a victimizer! They both were not getting along with their wives, Susan & Janet, and that was the sting that tied the whole confusing and entire case together!

Mind-blowing ending that turned everything up-side and right-side up as the truth about who was responsible for Janet Myer's murder comes out and in the most startling way: in a combination Jury and Judge trial. They, TV courtroom flicks, don't come any better then this and it's the fact that the story is all true is what make "Murder between Friends" the unbelievable shocker that it is.

P.S ***SPOILERS*** Very similar story to the 1951 Alfred Hitchcock thriller "Strangers on a Train" where it this case it's life imitating film or fiction!

Well Done Mystery Based on Actual Events
MagicStarfire1 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This film kept me guessing right up to the finish line.

The film begins with two wounded men, who have obviously been involved in a fight, running from a house. Bill Fontanille (Martin Kemp)has been stabbed, both men are covered in blood. The other man, Kerry Myers (Stephen Lang) also wounded and with a broken arm, is carrying a knife and screaming threateningly at Bill Fontanille, who is fleeing.

What has happened? We learn that Kerry Myers wife, Janet, has been murdered, and their son, Todd, a lad of about six or so, has been severely injured--and apparently unable to recall what happened. The only person unharmed is a baby girl, a few months old.

Kerry explains to the police that Bill Fontanelle, a long time pal of his, went crazy when his own wife left him, that Bill came over to the Myers' house, killed Kerry's wife, tried to kill his son and brutally attacked him, when he arrived home. The motive appears to be that an unhinged Bill was driven mad by the fact his wife left him, and that a child of theirs was born with a problem, while Kerry has it made with his family.

Bill, however, tells a different story--claiming he and Kerry's wife, Janet, had a sexual encounter, and that Kerry suspected. According to Bill, he arrived at the Myers house the night Janet was killed, only to be greeted at the door by Kerry who immediately stabbed him. Janet, Bill said, had already been killed by Kerry.

There are peculiarities in both men's stories, but the D.A. is unable to determine which man is lying and which man is telling the truth.

Based on a true story
tigerlady03077 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
As for the quality of the film, that's a matter of preference, the movie IS based on a true story. While some of the details of the crime, etc are made for TV, I have met with and spoken personally to Kerry Myers, who is currently serving a life sentence on a 2nd degree murder charge at LA State Penitentiary (aka Angola). And every life sentence in LA is without the possibility of parole. I am from and live in Louisiana. As for Bill Fontanille, he is serving a 20 year sentence. Anyone can look up the case and get the details. The case is pretty easy to find on the internet. It was a pretty big deal when it happened. Kerry Myers is the current editor of the Angolite, the magazine for the prison which is pretty popular.

This is a true story, unbelievable as it sounds.
luvbarbie993 July 2004
This murder happened only miles from where I live and both men did state they fought in the house for hours and never knew the wife and children were in the house. Of course they did, forensics showed the husband killed her and the friend was there. The house is not really big and you would have seen Janet Myers lying in the living room almost as soon as you entered the home. Very bizarre case, but it is true and happened in a west bank suburb of New Orleans. Every time I go by this house it reminds me of the tragic ending of a young mother and how her children lost her and their father(since he is in prison with no chance of parole.) The friend will be eligible for parole soon.

i met Kerry today
JaneMcCullen1 December 2006
i am in the tenth grade at Barbe high school and i met Kerry myers today. we took a class trip to Angola, and he was one of our speakers. he said he was a trustee there, meaning that he hasn't broken any "laws" or rules that they have there at the jail and hasn't been in trouble since he was arrested. he seemed incredibly intelligent, and mentioned that he had a masters in mass communication. at the end of his speaking, he allowed questions, and when someone asked "what are you in for?" and he answered "second degree murder", i was shocked. he seemed very nice and even made a few jokes. i never would have guessed if he hadn't have told us. i got off the bus from Angola about 2 hours ago, and immediately went to Google to find out more, and realized there was an entire movie based on this man that spoke to us. if anyone knows more and might be able to tell me where i can watch this movie, please let me know.

andybrite9 April 2003
I think this is one of the best T.V. movies I have ever seen. Martin Kemp is wonderful in this film, he is so handsome and his acting is great. My question is why has Martin Kemp never been chosen to play James Bond he would be perfect in this role he is so sexy. I love Murder Between Friend's.

Good Premise. One Extremely Bad TVM
Theo Robertson26 November 2002
Another TVM dealing with murder ! Hey perhaps if someone in America gets to grips with crime the murder rate will fall we won`t have to put up with crap small screen movies like this . Why`s it so crap ? Okay here goes...

The idea is relatively good ( Though I`m somewhat dubious as to how true this " Based on a true story is " ) What`s happened is a woman has been murdered and the husband and her lover both blame one another for it , so who`s lying who`s telling the truth ? The problem is it`s so badly written , directed and acted that you`ll find yourself asking why anyone involved in this poor production escaped prosecution for crimes against TV viewers . Scriptwriter Philip Rosenberg wastes his time with character flashbacks instead of filling in the numerous plot holes which will have you asking " Wait a darn minute, how`d the prosecution come to that conclusion ? " Mind you the defence attornay is played by an actor called Alex Courtney who I`ve never heard of who gives one of the most bizarre performances I`ve ever seen. Imagine Tommy Lee Jones pretending he`s a camp drag queen and you`ve got the idea . No wonder the wooden D.A seems to get so many lucky breaks . And all this is directed in a completely static way by Waris Hussein whose major claim to fame is that he directed the very first DOCTOR WHO story . The camera work there was also very static but that was way back in 1963 and Hussein managed to get good performances out of the cast on his WHO debut so what went wrong here ?

Perhaps the worst criticism I can give MURDER BETWEEN FRIENDS is the fact that later on the same day I also watched A BEAUTIFUL MIND and THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS and could still recall how bad this film was
