morre realistic than i Tonya
petersjoelen3 March 2024
Funny, I didn't know Heather Langenkamp (our Nightmare on Elm Street lady) played the role of Nancy Kerrigan.

While Tonya's character was portrayed very over the top in the recent film (I Tonya), her character appears a lot more realistic here.

A lot more emphasis is placed on the documentary-like aspect and everything is not so extremely dramatized.

The story is presented quite solidly with occasional short interview comments from those involved.

The lack of self-discipline and constantly making the wrong choices runs like a common thread through Tonya's character and is played out quite believably.

A Good Production
ReelCheese19 July 2006
It may just be a tabloid-style movie of the week, but "Tonya & Nancy: The Inside Story" is a pretty darn good one. This reasonably unbiased NBC production tells the intriguing story of figure skater Tonya Harding's alleged involvement in a conspiracy to injure rival Nancy Kerrigan prior to the 1994 Winter Olympics. The eventual knee clubbing of the wholesome Kerrigan remains one of the most sensational stories in sport history. Through some fine acting (including a perfectly cast Heather Langenkamp as Kerrigan) and interesting storytelling, we get an inside look at the events and purported events leading up to the deed. If this story captivated your interest when it occurred, this film should definitely please.

Not Bad
Nancy-4019 September 1999
This is a documentry of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, Its very good but it kind of makes Tonya like the victim when Nancy is the real victim. The girl who plays Nancy in this movie also played Nancy in the Nightmare on elm street films. its a very good movie, should watch it.

Tonya And Nancy The Inside Story is a mediocre made for television movie at best

Warning: Spoilers
A couple of years ago,I received a VHS tape of this movie in a trade.I put it aside and I found the tape a couple of days ago.I watched the movie for the first time and what I saw was a thoroughly mediocre made for television drama.I have seen so many made for television movies over the years that are based on true incidents. What I kept thinking while I was watching the movie was the actress who played ice princess spoiled Nancy Kerrigan is the same actress who was in the horrible slasher movie "A Nightmare On Elm Street" with Freddy Krueger slashing his long nails through the neighborhood. At least this one is not about a slasher but about a very talented powerful non ice princess skater who chose to take the cowardly way out.I do know that when Tonya Harding was exposed after the knee hit on Nancy Kerrigan the news media went nuts and now we have this so called docu drama. The movie is okay, nothing to write home about.I Have This Movie.

Painfully underrated

This was the first I, Tonya and it doesn't get nearly the cred it deserves. The post-modern film approach is so typical of the heightened cynical self-consciousness of the 90's and it's distracting if viewed through a more contemporary lens. But beyond that this is a fairly well-rounded film that covers an impressive amount of ground and did a lot of their homework. They also have the benefit of freshness-- yes its a made for TV film from the 90's and didn't have the budget of a feature film and it shows. But for those wanting a more balanced dramatized portrayal of the Tonya Harding-Nancy Kerrigan scandal this is the best you can expect.

This is not a bad documentary. I wouldn't say it is excellent. Madonna's Truth or Dare does an excellent job as a documentary while this one is just ok. But all in all pretty good!

Typical trashy movie of the week

UGH! Does the insanity ever stop? I remember seeing this movie on TV just a few weeks after the 1994 Olympics. It was a sappy, melodramatic teleflick that made Tonya seem like the victim. In all fairness, I have to say the actresses playing the lead roles both turned in good performances. Please, let's NOT see a sequel!!!
