An OK film
varghesejunior27 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is just an average love story cum thriller.

I watched it because I like the song "Tu mile".

Story is about a doctor who gets implicated in his wife's murder, and how he goes about proving his innocence and bringing the culprits to book.

The good - Mainly the second half of the film. The acting on Nagarjuna's part, the song "Tu mile', cinematography, some action sequences, especially the train scene, few dialogs.

The bad - all the other songs, the choreography, some bogus acting, weak editing at some places.

I don't think nowadays anyone will watch these type of films. You may ask why did I do. Well....that's only because of "Tu mile".

Music and different from usual 90s
jimmie-tete24 January 2024
For someone who grew up watching movies , this was a big change from the styles of traditional Bollywood early 90s.

The music and background score was very good The escape scene was one of the best shot movie scenes from the 90s.

It has more editorial finesse than most of the common Mahesh Bhatt movies. When you first saw it, you would never realise that it is a Mahesh Bhatt movie. He never really used to make thrillers

Some scenes were unnecessarily shot to increase the length of the movie

Ramya had a very decent role , much better than Manisha Koirala

Nagarjuna and the police officer Nasaar were very good.

Decent thriller with good music and acting, but more of bollywood style.
akhil-1010 April 2018
For starters, this is a copy of the 1993 Harrison Ford/Tommy Lee Jones starer Fugitive.

The plot is basically the same, the first half drags on with the love story which is made unnecessarily boring with a triangle sub-plot and some typical couple dance numbers.

the movie gains pace in the second half, and the acting by Nagarjuna/Ramya is quite good. Background score is super and haunting and personally my favourite part of the movie.

Overall, its a decent flick.. Fugitive thriller plot + bollywood mirch masala of love triangle and songs.

Bhatt is the Criminal for making this...
farkomeister18 February 2009
With Nagarjuna and Koirala in the lead, I was expecting a decent movie. This, unfortunately, was quite bad. Not surprisingly, it sank without a trace at the box office in 1995, despite the star-studded cast.

It's supposed to be a remake of the Fugitive, but did Bhatt even watch the original before supposedly "re-making" it? As with his other films, Bhatt takes a reasonably good story and uses his "magic" to destroy it.

The songs are interspersed at random places in the movie, and, as is usual with Bhatt films, there is always the unnecessary sexuality. Nagarjuna's acting skills are not quite up to the par, and he looks rather tired and old, even beyond whatever is required by his role.

The soundtrack still sounds pretty good, however, but is not quite good enough to redeem the movie.

Horrible copy of Fugitive
gonavaramps30 September 2000
Criminal, another movie which was supposed to be inspired by Fugitive is in-fact a horrible re-make of Harrison Ford's terrific thriller Fugitive. In the process of making it look a bit different the director makes a nonsense film with 2 heroines and duets where as in the original there is no character as a heroine. And then the character of Tomy Lee Jones is so mellowed down that it looks nothing more than a traffic constable and this is done just to make the hero look like a superman capable of doing anything.

A worst film in every aspect.

A bland copy of "The Fugitive"
SumanShakya22 January 2022
"Criminal" is a Tamil/ Hindi copy of a very successful Hollywood thriller "The Fugitive." Many scenes are just the carbon copy of the same movie. While "The Fugitive" remains compulsively watchable and gripping, "Criminal" appears a mawkish copy of the same with the implausible stunts done in the regular Indian style. Hence, the audiences rejected to its taste which mixes the Indian movie formulas with Hollywood story. The only saving graces are the glamour Manisha Koirala creates in the film along the mesmerizing score "Tum Mile Dil Khile" and above average performances of Nagarjuna and Nazar. Overall, the film is a crap. Just go for the original movie.

A movie which was a trend-setter in Telugu movies.
rohitroxster26 February 2015
I can see a few people abusing the movie and its director for remaking a English movie.I guess the same people did not even know that this movie was a remake until recently when they realised it. The movie is a nice adaptation from the original and as a moviemaker has to make compromises to satisfy Bollywood and its viewers the movie turns out to be a good thriller for a 1990s timeline. Acting wise Nagarjuna excels in his actions both as a criminal and a doctor. Manisha Koirala and Ramya Krishnan were among the better actresses at that time and are glamorous. The comedy sequences are nicely mixed in between to divert the movie from being too monotonous. Gulshan Grover plays the villain role to perfection. Songs by M.M.Keeravani are a melody ride which are among the best songs in 90s era.

Horrible rehash of the classic The Fugitive
jahangirhussain742 June 2011
Criminal is another disastrous movie from one of the greatest copycats of Bollywood- Mukesh Bhatt.

But even replicating most of the scenes from the classic Hollywood flick, The Fugitive couldn't save this film.

The plot is badly handled with lots of unnecessary song and dance. What was the most irritating part was that Criminal contains two heroines. In the original, the plot was based only on the hero and his run from the law till he proves himself innocent. The heroines do nothing substantial for the film. Manisha Koirala was only effective in her last two scenes. But the whole love angle between her and Nagarjuna where she tries to seduce the hero to make him fall in love with her was so irritating. Ramya Krishnan plays the role of a cop but be aware of the fact that she's just a sidekick to Nassar. The role of Tommy Lee Jones in the original is played by Nassar and he was good but again, it's a deja vu kind of thing if you already watched the Fugitive.

The hero, Nagarjuna was terrible. He looked lost and uninterested in front of the camera. He lacks the charm of the charismatic Harrison Ford.

The songs were very displeasing to the ears. 'Tum Mile Dil Khile' is likable in parts but the rest of the songs are horrible.

On the whole, a horrible movie from the Bhatt camp. Avoid!

ramyah!!! criminaly good

One of the best copies bolluwood has made even with nagarjuna in it and even if directed by Bhatt. This movie is ïnspired"by The Fugitive"(like most Bhatt movies this is a copy). Nagarjuna is Harrisson Ford who is framed for the murder of his wife (Manisha Koirala). because this movie has to be approx. 3 hrs, the love story of how Nags and Manisha met and fell in love is also woven in the film. But since it is Manisha Koirala and the flashback has the sexy Ramyah Kishnan also in it, it is good. By the way Ramyah is a cop on the trail of Harrissson, oops, nagarjuna who was once in love with him but sacrificed her love for her friend Manisha. I know it sounds crappy but the film isactually good. Gulshan Grover is also in it. If i am not mistaken than Ajit (Loin) is also in the movie in the Jeroen Krabbe role.
