The "Butterfly Effect" is an example that Chaos theorists use to explain that a very small thing can trigger unforeseen consequences. That is what happens when Luis, a Spanish Economics student, goes to study to London, where he shares a flat with Oswald, the next-door neighbor of his aunt Olivia, who he has never met before. At first Luis and Olivia don't understand each other very well: Luis is shy and serious, while Olivia is uninhibited and always seems to be happy. But gradually, circumstances will bring them together, and after Olivia dumps her boyfriend Duncan, who beat her and cheated on her, aunt and nephew realize that they are falling in love.
