Originally, after contestants selected the category, along with the value, when a question Martindale was read, beginning with the "I Am," phrase, they had to use the, "You Are," phrase format afterwards. Then, in Season 2, Martindale asked a toss-up question that awarded a negative $1 and initial control of the round. Rather than selecting an individual question, the contestant in control chose one of five categories from the board and Martindale asked five questions in succession, and that they didn't have to use the phrase, "You Are," anymore, though Martindale always asked the "I Am," question.
