Mithun Chakraborty acted in the same type of movies in the 90s especially the late 90s. After his shift to Ooty in 1995, his films all became terrible B Grade style action films that only worked in the South. The masses loved his films, he was dominating the single screens and people would just go to these low class theatres just to watch Mithun fight. To be honest, his movies in the early 90s were good, but ever since he had TLV Prasad as his director, his films were like South films.
Bhishma released at the time when Mithun had already moved to Ooty and was busy constructing his Monarch hotel, he would only do films in that area. Bhishma was one of his delayed movies that started in 1993, this was the time when his mainstream films were flopping. This one was also a box office flop. The film is about a naïve villager Bhola who has the brains of a little child. Always acting silly and creating a mess in the village. Paro falls in love with him after he rescues her from a molester. After some boring comedy and typical romance, Paro's molester injuries Bhola and he is hospitalized. It is then the twist is unfolded that Bhola had lost his memory. He was actually Inspector Bhishma who was almost killed by some corrupt policemen. The film goes in flashback and shows Bhishma's story. How his innocent family was killed just because he stood in the way of some evil villains. Bhisma starts taking his revenge and the rest of the film is a typical action film with a predictable ending.
Direction by Jagdish A Sharma is decent in parts but the first half is boring and lame. The comedy slows down the film and the typical romance goes on and on till it's time for the twist to happen. The scenes before and after the twist are well handled. After the twist, the film is a typical revenge film which is entertaining but some of the deaths of the villains are illogical. Overall, it's the script's problem but Sharma's direction is fairly decent. This however couldn't do good business like his Sapoot(1996) did. At least this film was better than Judge Mujrim(1997) his next film.

His overacting and childish scenes are irritating but the twist and the on going typical action saves the film from being a complete bore. Anjali Jathar and the heroine who plays Paro are OK but they don't have much to do, their roles are short. The villains Mohan Joshi, Mukesh Rishi, Avtaar Gill, and Arun Bakshi are typecast. Harish Patel as the investigating officer does an average job. The rest provide average support.
