Quotes

  • Kay : [Debra slips into Kay's bedroom and takes a picture out of her pocket. Key comes in]  Oh no you don't. You ain't sneaking off this early.

    [takes the picture]

    Kay : What's that?

Debra : Just a picture Daddy had.

Kay : God! Look at Carolyn. She never saw that Christmas, you know.

Debra : I know. I can't stop thinking about her.

    [Takes the picture back]

    Debra : I gotta go.

    Kay : Debra...

Debra : Kay, please. Don't start.

[She goes out into the living room]

Kay : You just want to keep pushing it away, don't you? Well, you can't push it away any more than I can.

    [Stands in front of Debra]

Kay : Okay, just tell me this. If Carolyn just 'fell off the bed', why was there an investigation?

Debra : Who says there was? Francie?

Kay : Yeah, and me! And I remember it, too. Because we thought Mama was dead, remember?

[Debra picks up the phone about to call someone]

Kay : And then she walks into the funeral...

[Grabbing the phone from Debra and setting it down]

Kay : Debra, don't tell me you don't remember this! Those men, wheeling her casket in the back and taking pictures of her... DEBRA!

Woody : Hey Kay, come on, they're playing our song.

Kay : [to Woody]  Not now.

    [to Debra]

Kay : How can you close your eyes to this and go back to Jolene? How could you even LOOK at her knowing what she did?

Debra : I don't know what she did!

Kay : You do too! You were standing right next to me!

Debra : I was three years old! How do I know what I saw?

Kay : She KILLED OUR BABY SISTER!

Woody : [grabbing Kay]  Come on, Kay!

Kay : [struggling with Woody]  Let go of me! LET GO!

[she smashes a liquor bottle on the floor]

Kay : I CAN'T HOLD IT IN ANY MORE! I DON'T CARE ANY MORE! She was two years old, Deb. She was just a little kid. And nobody even cares about her

    Debra : That's not true.

Kay : Then why aren't we doing something? Why can't we at least just stand up for her?

Debra : Shh, shh, come on.

[Kay breaks into tears into Debra's arms]

Kay : I can't! I just can't... I can't hold it in any more! I can't carry it by myself any more! Deb, I'm going crazy, I swear to God!

Debra : [comforting Kay]  It's okay, it's okay. Just listen to me. It's all right! You don't have to carry it alone any more. You don't have to. I'm gonna be with you now. I'm gonna be with you now, okay? You just got to tell me what to do. It's all right, please, please, please. It's okay. It's okay. Please, Kay! It's okay.
