Low budget crime drama with 1930's overtones
sol-kay6 December 2003
******SPOILERS***** Low budget crime movie set in Minnesota about a street thug who tries to make it big time with the syndicate only to find out in the end that theirs no honor among thieves even though honor was the reason that he joined up with them in the first place.

Joe Webster, Justin Pagel, always excelled at whatever he did as a boy. As a young man he wanted to be a criminal and tried excelling at that too. With his two friends in crime Danny Bruke, Scott Cooke, and Jake Bailey, Michael Egan, they were anything but successful at their chosen profession. It's then that Joe decided to go solo as a criminal by working his way up the ladder of crime for the Sid Donnelly, Philip Ray,Mob which controlled all the criminal activities in the North-West with it's offices centered in Minnesota.

Joe being good at his job which was whatever his boss Donnelly wanted him to do started getting up in the world of crime. Donnelly assigned Joe a job of breaking into his rival mobsters, McAllister, headquarters and replacing a number of computer disks. In this way Donnelly can wipe out McAllister's criminal operations as well as his cash flow by just hitting a number of keys on a keyboard. Joe got his friends, Danny and Jake, to help him in doing the job for Donnelly. Joe doesn't realize that Donnelly came to an agreement with McAllistr. To show that he was dealing in good faith Donnelly sold out Joe and his friends to McAllister by telling him that they were going to rip off his headquarters that night.

The McAllister mob ended up killing Joe's friends Danny and Jake, with the help of the Donnelly mob, by tracking them down after they raided McAllister's headquarters and lifted the computers disks Joe now a marked man, had only one option left for him: Go back to his boss Donnelly's headquarters and finish some very pressing business that he has with him.

1930's type crime movie about one working himself up in the crime world only to find out that your expendable ,no matter how big you think you are, and that it's a business that you don't retire from but that it retires you. Rough around the edges but well rounder story with a fascinating as well as shocking conclusion that sharpens some things that were starting to get a little fuzzy and out of focus when the movie was winding down.

decent low-budget crime thriller
JamieWJackson31 May 2014
I could rate this higher than 5 if comparing it to other low-budget films, because it's pretty good in that category. I gave it a 5 because it overcomes its limitations to be... any good, but it does still suffer from a few flaws. As everyone has noted, the acting is so-so, and I'll add that the effects were not up to standard big-budget par either. Also, I can think of a few plot holes, if I wanna. LOL!

OTOH, I can't rate it too low because it held my interest and for the most part it was competently done, even good in places. Any movie that keeps me guessing will at least climb out of the basement, and this one goes beyond that. I cared, a little bit, about the characters, and wondered what would become of Joe in his quest for... whatever.

This has too much violence and blood for children, but adults looking for some cheap indie thrills in a film noir style should enjoy. Just take it for what it is.

A Stinker

I caught this film late at night on HBO. Talk about wooden acting, unbelievable plot, et al. Very little going in its favor. Skip it.

Underrated Crime Film!!!
thedriver786 February 2007
First off, I just want to say that this movie was excellent, given its low budget, and unknown actors. If you enjoy movies like Boondock Saints, Amongst Friends, you will like this film. The director, Travis Milloy, did such a wonderful job with the action sequences, as well as shooting on location all around Minnesota. Justin Pagel(the main character), just looked the part of a tough criminal who always got the job done, no matter what task he was assigned. Complete with trench coat, some basic hand-to-hand combat skills, ponytail, and a stainless 9mm Beretta, Joe Webster kept you on the edge of your seat.

As much as I enjoy the movie, it does have its share of flaws. The acting isn't really all that great, but the story, the action, and the ending(one of the craziest, unexpected endings I've ever seen!!!!!) really make this movie a pleasure to check out. Street Gun is the 'shiznit'!

Street Gun - More Like Gutter Gun
krocheav26 August 2020
This came as a double sided disc with something else I wanted - but I sure could have done with not having it in my head. This super-cheap movie is super cheap in all departments, a wanna-be crime caper in the style all other wanna-be crime movies tend to go for. Every character is super nasty, not one even partly likable personality here. It plays like a grotty backyard movie made by someone who's watched one too many Italian westerns, along with gangster obsessed Scorsese, etc, pics. It also looks like all the movie makers like minded, gangster lovin' friends, have gathered around to share their 'big' time bad-ass movie dreams.

The result is a poor copy of other shows that were more popular than they deserved to be. A mean spirited, swear-fest nasty, that outstays it's welcome and deserves to be forgotten as fast as possible. Cinematographer Joel King has been around movie making long enough to pick-up a few good ideas but the bad editing robs most of his reasonable work of any real impact. The easily pleased movie geeks will last the distance but many others will blast it out of all memory (if they are foolish enough to let it get in there)

Good Watching
Corinthian-225 July 2004
You can tell that this is the first offering by the Director (who also wrote it), but you can also see the potential this guy has. This is an obviously low budget film in the spirit of Boondock Saints. Of course, Boondock Saints came out a few years after this, so you could look at this as a diamond in need of some polish. The acting was good - if you're looking for DeNiro or Michael Madsen in a crime drama, remember that these are young guys, playing young guys trying to be criminals. They're not going to be "supercool" (tm) like some of the veterans. I would have love to have seen Justin Pagel (Joe - the main character) go on to make more movies - he was great in this. Good movie - 3 stars out of 5.

Worth watching!
mahoneyroli6 May 2005
I felt compelled to give some feedback on this movie that I rented from Blockbuster. This movie has it all - comedy, drama, crime, suspense and "realism".

This movie also had a lot of action with just the right amount of humor! I will definitely watch it again! There were some funny parts as well as action-packed drama. I enjoy movies that keep you wondering what's going to happen next.

The writer/director, Travis Milloy, should make more movies!!! In my overall opinion, this movie was great! I'm looking forward to his next one! Travis Milloy has real talent as a writer and director.

Well written & a wow ending!
pope-george18 July 2000
Considering this film cost less than a 1/4 million to make, it is extremely impressive. I read about it in the trades before I saw it. Yes, the acting is a little rough, but photography and writing is great and watch out for the ending. I can't help but compare it to Blood Simple. This Director, Travis Milloy (also the producer and writer) has real talent.
