Not Bad
IrisNo1114 July 1999
I saw this movie on VH1! I liked it too. It was pretty strange too. It's about a girl with so many problems named Zane (played by Jennifer Blanc) trying to be someone who she is deeply jealous of. Shannen Doherty plays Heather (aka Little Miss Harmless, Little Miss Perfect), whom Zane wants to be. I guess that's not unusual, because jealousy happens to anyone anywhere! I thought Jason London was paired better with Emily Bergl in "The Rage: Carrie 2" than Shannen Doherty and Jennifer Blanc.

The movie also features music which is why it is on VH1. Both Shannen and Jennifer have very cool and clear as a crystal voices when they sing. The band name's pretty lame (Dead Pink is the band name), but the music was good. When you watch this movie, the title to this movie doesn't quite fit the plot to the movie, but it's kind of hard to think of another title for it. I'm not going to say this movie is boring or great, it's good. Shannen and Jason are great actors, but I think Jennifer's acting really stood out the most. You have to be really smart to play a character like Zane Armstrong (or Suzanne Boxer)!

See it someday! You can probably catch it on VH1 sometime! :o)

Not so Sweet Revenge
sol121819 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS** Suzanne Boxer, Jennifer Blanc, had it in for Heather Romley, Shannen Doherty, since she was 12 years old when Heather won first prize over her in a local talent contest. In fact Suzanne didn't even finish in the running freezing up on stage while singing off key "Beautiful Dreamer".

It's now some five years later with Heather the singing sensation of the local collage group "Dead Pink" and on the verge, her and her group, of breaking into the big time in the Rock Music business. It's then out of nowhere this mosey and gigging young girl enters Heather's life named Zanne Amstrong. Zanne it turns out has been institutionalized for some two years with a mental breakdown and is in fact the girl that Heather beat in that talent contest Suzanne Boxer.

The movie is about revenge pure and simple with Zanne at first getting very friendly with the unsuspecting Heather and then worming herself into both Heathers professional and personal life. Zanne does this by stealing Heather's not so on the ball boyfriend, a guitarist in the group "Dead Pink", "Simple" Simon, Jason London. This happened after Zanne got picked, against the advice of her fellow "Dead Pink" musicians, by Heather to be her back up singer.

The cunning and somewhat unstable, to say the least, Zanne also goes so far as to get Heather in trouble at school in the English Literature class she attends. Zanne jeopardizes Heathers collage scholarship in planting a fake report that leads her teacher English Prof. Gunderson, Harry J. Lennix, to suspect that she plagiarized it from the works of author Joyce Carol Oates.

With her life now in shambles Heather quits the "Dead Pink" rock group and goes solo with the only friend she has left writer and music arranger as well as guitarist Nick, John Livingston. It's then when a person out of Zannes past shows up and is about to screw up all her plans, thats until she murdered him, former boyfriend Brad Stern, Rafer Weigel.

It's when Heather finally finds out the truth about Zanne from peaking into her scrapbook and later from her estranged mother Mrs. Boxer, Harriet Sansom Harris, that she finally puts two and two together! Zanne is the girl whom she beat in a talent contest some five years ago ,Susanne Boxer, and never forgave her for doing that!

Now pumped up and ready to go into action Heather, knowing who she's up against, together with her singing partner Nick takes on Zanne and her former singer group "Dead Pink" in a dramatic battle of the groups contest at a local nightclub. Zanne at first seeming up to the challenge, in battling Heather for the first place prize, suddenly falls apart and goes into a complete meltdown mode. It's then that all the horrors and sins of her past life, that she kept secret from the world, catches up with her.

Unable to continue as she just loses it on stage Zanne breaks down, in her mothers arms, into a sobbing and scared little girl knowing that her big chance to be #1 has passed her by for good. Zanne also knows that, in the murder of her former boyfriend Brad, she'll very likely never see the outside of a prison or mental institution for the rest of her life.

Awesome Movie!
FigSpark6 July 1999
Wow, what a cool movie. This movie is great for people who are fans of Shannen Doherty because she sings a lot in it! Her name is Heather in the movie and she's in a band. And this other girl tries to take her life, or rather, replace her. I have to say two thumbs up. I saw it on tv. And it's on again in a couple days, so I'm going to tape it. Shannen Rocks in it, you just have to see it.

One of the best Shannen-movie ever!
okay, I just had to write a comment on this movie. I really liked the whole "jellous-at-the-better" idea. I haven't seen this subject before and I like it. Shannen was a great acteress and if it was she singing, which i doubt, it was good. This movie is high on the Shannen Doherty-list.

You've got to be kidding.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is basicaly "Single White Female" meets "The hand that rocks the cradle" meets "Poison ivy" meets "Fatal Attraction"....I'm sure you've got the general idea. A movie that's been done so many times it's not even funny, the only thing I liked about it at all was that rather then nanny, roommate or scheming mistress oriented this was focused on music. That didn't make it a good movie but it does garner it maybe half a point on the rating scale.

But the movie is very predictable and after seeing this type of movie over nad over again, it just wears a bit thin. Though the One thing in it's favor is that it is a bit better, I must admit then pretty much all of the above mentioned flicks except for Fatal Attraction.

The only time I'd recommend someone watch this Vh1 gem(not!) is if they have the flu and it's a choice between this movie and a trashy talk show and their really tired of sleeping and feeling sick. Then it might be worth viewing. Or if they just really like this genre of movie. Otherwise it's missable.

You men don't get it!

This is simply a chick flick. And not any old chick. Women in their 30s who watched 90210 religiously. It's great to see Brenda play another character. For once, she's not the evil one! If you note carefully, the blonde in this movie played Brenda's friend on one episode of 90. They must have really hit it off making fun of Tori! Sure, this is a flu movie. But it's also a movie for women like me who have had too long of a day, and just want to drink a bottle of wine, and relive the good old times, when none of us worked. Plus, we all secretly want to ruin the lives of our coworkers and people prettier than us. I find it funny that all the people trashing this movie seemed to have watched it the whole way through. They must have liked something about it.

Be Aware, Be Very Aware
jrstl2 January 2003
What a total piece of crap. I rarely comment on movies here, but I just had to warn everyone not to waste 90 minutes of your precious life. The only thing worse than the acting in this movie is the singing. There is one song Shannon D. and the other actress sings in this movie, many, many, many, many, many, times....and it sucks.

shannon sings
kairingler31 January 2010
i never really knew that Shannon Doherty could sing that well, now i'm a guy and her singing just totally blew my doors off, it's something that i would actually listen to. This movie is about competition,, from early childhood, all the way up to adult life,, 2 girls compete for practically everything,, talent shows , the works,, then one day the other girl,, the one who is always 2nd place she has a nervous breakdown on stage and loses very badly. now years pass, and they say that time heals all wounds,, right,,,, wrong,, the girl now has a different identity, she says her parents were killed in the plane crash and sets out to destroy the girl that made her childhood a living nightmare. the it girl,, played by shannon doherty is all grown up with her own band,,trying to make it big on the new rock n roll scene,, soon her rival will weasel her way into the band and into her life to unleash a very unhealthy dose of vengeance.

A trying to hard nobody tries to steal the limelight from Shannen Doherty to settle an old rivalry between them.
iscreenwriter2 October 2005
Weak, predictable, and annoying. It borderlines on being unintentionally campy and at times is so bad that it's good.

The "original music" by the band in the movie is also painful to listen to. With incredibly silly lyrics.

The lead actors, though talented are not used to their potential in this made for TV piece of crap.

I wish I could say that they don't make movies like this anymore but in fact they do and here's the prove -- this film exists. There's so many silly plot points going on and a "battle of the bands" cliché climax mixed in with a thriller/psycho killer theme...college film, sorority plot twist, confusing? It is -- not because it's hard to follow but because you soon realize this is all just typical MOW crap trying way to hard to take itself serious.

Doherty & Blanc were Two Hot Stars
whpratt18 September 2005
Always enjoy Shannen Doherty(Heather Romley),"The Rendering",'02, and in this picture Heather is portrayed as a very talented young girl who continues to be talented in almost everything that she does. However, in her past there was a contest that she won when she was very very young and the loser just doesn't seem to forget the horrible loss. There is lots of action through out the entire film with even a murder thrown into the picture. Jennifer Blanc (Zanne Armstrong or Boxer),"Quality Time",'04 gave an outstanding performance and had some very warm and steamy romantic scenes which seemed to over shadow Heather and her love life. There is lots of action and eventually you can almost determine just how the film will end, and then it cuts off and ENDS. Shannen Doherty & Jennifer Blanc were simply fantastic in their acting roles.

Seen it twice and loved it!
shawdow30 July 2000
I've seen this movie twice on VH1. The first time it was just past the middle part. I was really upset when I didn't catch the name of the movie. But luckily about a week later I was channel surfing and caught it from the very beginning...and loved it even more!

addicting
wh202415 July 2000
all of the acting in this movie is mediocre at best, but it is one of the most addictive movies i have ever seen. since it is practically on a loop over at vh1, i have seen it at least 3 times.

frankly, neither shannen nor jennifer have great voices, but that is why it is so funny. the plot is really obvious from the beginning, and it is pretty trite. again, that is part of the charm.

shannen doherty is one of my least favorite 'actresses,' but she is so bad in this that it is wonderful. this is one of the best made for tv movies because it takes lame plots, one sided characters, and easily forseeable plot twists from all other movies before it.

i would recommend this when you are sick or bored, but it really needs no recommendation because it will suck you in.

Oh Yes, Go Shay!
goldengate_883 August 2003
Shannen Doherty's kind of movie.

If I had not seen it 5 times i'd give it a 10, coz it's really good, but no...

Everything is ok. The plot, the actors, the clothes.. There is just one thing, I HATE the music that they played! Like OMG who would ever want to change places with Shannen in a band that is SO BAD!! I'd muuuch rather be the other girl (see I haven't studied the character names ;-P)

Yeap, but i'll give it 7 out of 10 anyway, it's worth that...

"Single white female," meets "Dying to belong."
Kyleshivers9 July 1999
At times this movie was scary, but other times it was funny how stupid the people are in it. The only person that acts somewhat normal is Shannon Dorethy. I think that not putting to much scare into the movie made it scary. The scene when Heather walks in on Zahn in bed with Heather's boyfriend is so unbelievable. Why would Zahn kiss her boyfriend when Heather was standing there after she catched them. Zahn was looking at her when she did it. Then the next day, Zahn said it was a mistake and to forgive her. I'm surprised Heather couldn't figure out Zahn was psycho from the start. The movie is very slow which makes it seem like it lasts forever but I must say "It will hook you." 2 out of 5
