A 'flashback' scene in the movie depicts the girls as previously being a group of homeless friends living in a coffee house, while aspiring for fame, even practicing their future debut single "Wannabe" for the cafe's owner (who was supposedly allowing them to stay there for free). Then they look back to the house for memory. This scene led many fans to believe this was the group's actual origin. This backstory, however, was entirely fictional. In reality, The Spice Girls came together when each girl individually (albeit, Victoria and Geri first knew each other auditioning for a part for the film "Tank Girl") answered an ad in the London magazine "The Stage", which called for any young woman between the ages of eighteen and twenty-three to audition for a new singing group which was to be formed. Over four hundred girls auditioned, and when the girls were chosen, the band (then called Touch) was created and they were trained at Trinity Studios. They also lived in the same house while practicing so that they would form a bond. Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) was actually a late addition to the group, as she replaced another girl (Michelle Stephenson) after six months.
