Nothing ever happens!
felix-1018 October 2002
I don´t like to write bad comments about films because I like to think that everybody put a big effort making the film. This film is well made on a technical level, the acting was good... but the story in almost nonexistant. At first it sounds great: a boy wants to trace the energy towers from 71 to number 1 to see what´s there. That sounds like a road movie with kids, and I was hopng funny things to happen on the way. However, almost 90% of the time we only see the boys riding their bikes on the way, digging holes in the sand... And that´s it! Two hours of boys riding abikes, I´m not kidding. Almost in the end there´s a twist that could have brought a little attention, but it´s not satisfying. The last scenes are warm but that doesn´t compensate the 115 minutes that one passes before. The script stops strangely at one point to tell another story one year later, a boy disappears in the middle without ever appearing again (we never know what happened to him)... the script is not well constructed. I watched A scene by the sea, by Takeshi Kitano, another film where nothing really happens, but somehow I didn´t feel bored like in this one, in fact I loved it. Like here, almost no dialogue, almost no action, but I enjoyed A scene... far better than this. I don´t want to say "Don´t watch this film", watch if you want but if you liked it... tell me why please! And sorry, because I really wanted to like the film... but really... nothing happens!
