The series was recorded on Sundays, when the actors were free from their West End commitments.
Episode 5 of season 2, and all 13 episodes of Season 3 are presumed to be lost.
A West End stage version of the series opened in December 1962.
The theme music for the first season was a syncopated arrangement of Eric Coates' "Calling All Workers". The more familiar theme , specially composed for the show by Gordon Franks, was introduced for season 2.
In September 2017 Sheila Hancock revealed on BBC Radio 4's "Women Talking About Cars" that she and co-star Miriam Karlin sometimes resorted to performing episodes on a combination of champagne and purple hearts (due to exhausting theatre commitments at the same time as recording).
