In the United States of Brazil then, the Theatrical and Cinematographical Censorship was a section of the Investigation Office under the Directorate of Public Morals and Games of each State's Police Department. Therefore, a film would be imposed different cuts from state to state, and receive different ratings. This film was cut to 53 minutes in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and 51 minutes in the State of São Paulo. In São Paulo, the certificate dated January 27, 1931, forbade the exhibition of this film to "menores e senhorinhas", meaning persons under the age of 21 (Civil Code of 1916) and unmarried ladies. Senhorinhas may be understood as unmarried ladies (in the legal sense) or virgin women (in the moral sense), which adds to the peculiar certificate, and how to apply it at the theatre's door. In practice, doormen and policemen vetoed any woman unaccompanied by her husband.
