"You've seen INCEPTION, now watch DARK DREAMS!" -not.
Alas, DARK DREAMS doesn't pack the intellectual, emotional or even puzzle-solving wallop of INCEPTION. That's because it's a porn film, stupid! Though the opening scenes vaguely resemble a real movie, with almost-acting going on, DD soon descends to the all-sex format and abstract mumbo-jumbo that people who can't even spell the word surrealism call by that dreaded name.
Bride and groom Tina Russell and Harry Reems are headed for their honeymoon when they suffer a flat tire, with no spare in the trunk. This being before cell phones were invented, and porno to boot, they settle for the cliché and head to the nearest house to make a distress phone call. I keep seeing that gimmick over & over in porn.
A wicked sorceress, played by a kindly old actress who luckily doesn't have to participate in any sex scenes, drugs our couple and its all-sex, baby, from there.
This is sloppy filmmaking, with scenes and portions of scenes assembled randomly and even repeated (uh-oh, the stretch/loop/padding of the '80s videos is just around the corner) ad nauseum. Russell is beautiful as ever but it is impossible to buy her playing a virgin bride, as the film builds towards a ROSEMARY'S BABY styled climax. False ending is poorly done and trite in the extreme.
Tech credits didn't impress me, even though there was a modest effort made. They didn't have the bucks to come up with any interesting sets or fantasy effects. Casting is okay with familiar porn stars, but they settled for a plain looking actress (moniker: Kitty Cat) in a mixed combo role opposite Reems that cried out for a Desiree West type.
The worst element here, astoundingly bad, is a female voice making like Michael Winslow (!) in providing idiotic clicking and vocalese sound effects over the action to add to the intended weirdness. Sort of Police Academy meets Satanic Porn - not a very good idea.
