Cavalcade of Moods
milton-freddy25 December 2013
Johan Jacobsen made this cavalcade movie where a record with a waltz by Chopin shifts hands thereby forming a kind of continuity between eight short stories depicting love, longing and need with city people from different layers of society. This is Johan Jacobsen's first serious movie after having made nine comedies in a row, and he was still a young 32 years old director. The episodes are uneven and some of them are a bit mechanical, but the actors perform above their usual standard. Perhaps the best episode is the sailor Gunnar Lauring meeting the house maid Bodil Kjer hitting honest and sincere notes on falling in love, but you also find whimsical moments from Petrine Sonne and film noir like aspects from Eyvind Johan-Svendsen and Inge Hvid-Møller. Poul Reumert, Poul Reichhardt and Ib Schønberg has also noteworthy contributions in this outstanding compilation movie.
