It's okay
louisejuel2 January 2007
The critics never liked this series, however I loved it. I've seen it time and time again and the only thing, I was annoyed by is that all the Swedish parts were played by Danish actors - speaking Danish. This was changed in the re-release, so on the DVD-version the Swedish characters speak Swedish :o) Perhaps the series is not great art, but the action is quite funny and it stays true to the books on which it is based. The story is what it is, and one should not believe to much of it. It is more a story about Svend than Svend's story. However Svend Gønge was a real-life person from Skåne in Sweden. After the war he ended up as a major in the Danish army.

Gøngehøvdingen

I have seen this movie "Gøngehøvdingen" and it is very good, it contains everything betrayal, love, sword fighting, action and one man's decision can make a whole kingdom to fall in the hands of it's enemies or it can restore peace and secure the hope of those who will give their life for their country. Søren Pilmark is a very good actor as Svend Poulsen or Gøngehøvdingen and so is Bent Mejding who plays the strong Swedish colonel Sparre. I think it's very heroic that Svend Poulsen will sacrifice everything to get 50.000 Rigsdaler (danish crones at that year) to give them to his king. The whole movie is very good recorded and the 1600 years cloth, weapon, language and buildings is very composed, a perfect movie to watch a day when its raining and or snowing.

The low point of danish TV Drama
ThePikey14 January 2010
"Gøngehøvdingen" represents the most embarrassing chapter of danish TV history. A history that includes series from the likes of writer Leif Panduro in the 60's, 70's, culminating with the much loved "Matador" in the early 80's. Since followed in the 90's and 00's with the Emmy winning "Rejseholdet", "Ørnen" etc. There is hardly any aspect of "Gøngehøvdingen" that is not an embarrassment to danish television. Sets are incredibly poor, lines are corny and reminiscent of cheap children's TV. Many of the actors are otherwise talented, but struggle to make the story work in spite of a pathetic script. Direction seems non existent, and the scenes seem to be made up exclusively of first takes. It is hard to watch "Gøngehøvdingen" without constantly cringing or laughing out loud.

A nightmare - best forgotten
raagaard6 August 2006
Puke, puke, vomit,Arrrgh!!!! The worst piece of TV Drama(?) ever made in this country. Miscasted, terrible acting, sloppy instruction, sets that are even more fake than those of "Plan Nine from outer Space". You can tell that the actors are trying to make the best of their rolls, but you can also see how uncomfortable and utterly embarrassed they feel about participating in such a pile of garbage, except off course Per Pallesen. If this was japan... When the revolution comes i'm sure the film rolls, video tapes and even DVD's (oh yes, it has actually been re- released) will all be gathered and burned on a big bonfire, which we will all dance around.

One of the best Nordic films ever
metal-wolf6 November 2007
One of the best Nordic films ever.

It is true to the time and does not bother for "fake" sets and that irritating fake sword sound that's destroying sword fights in most moves.

it feels like its real and has this good story, that is based on a true story.

a must see for all real move lovers.

it contains all a real move needs Romans, comedy, action and drama.

so if you haven't seen it see it.

I guarantee you will like it if you like historical moves,
