Director Jürgen Böttcher, also known as Strawalde, announced shorty after finishing this movie that it would be his final film and that he would now focus exclusively on painting
While Böttcher does not comment the events captured in the film directly, he did set up a cinematograph to project onto the remains of the wall historical scenes connected to it (e.g. tanks and soldiers near the Brandenburg Gate)
A scene which has become famous for its irony is when a group of adolescents celebrating New Year's Eve in the now re-united Berlin begin chanting "Gorbi! Gorbi!" while holding up a bottle of Wodka Gorbatschow
