Storyline

Cigar-chomping Lieutenant Columbo's investigation into the odd death of two men flings him headlong into a mystery revolving around the long-lost loot from an unsolved bank heist. Insurance investigator Irving Krutch asks for Columbo's assistance in tracking down the pieces of a photograph that will reveal the location of the hidden millions. To do so, Columbo must go undercover in various guises to obtain the pieces from the various people who now possess them. But in the course of the investigation, more than one of these people will be murdered, and Columbo can't shake the feeling that Krutch is somehow responsible for the entire bloody business... Goofs

The location where the police find the sunken chest in no way matches the picture that supposedly reveals the location. The picture shows a wide "roadway" with square posts along the edge that borders the ocean. Where they actually pull up the chest the roadway is narrower with boulders on either side and no posts. Columbo or Mike Hammer?
20 November 2015 | by searchanddestroy-1See all my reviews

I was astonished to watch such a Columbo episode, so different from all the others. And since the beginning of the whole show, which I have seen every episode, I have often seen some elements different from the usual and recurrent schemes: for instance Columbo appears before the crime is committed: a crime committed by two persons; Columbo lets the murderer gets away; even one episode when there is no murder but only a disappearance... But here, there is a real mystery scheme, the audience doesn't see the murder occurring, a mystery scheme as we could see in any other mystery crime scheme. Columbo doesn't look like Columbo, different outfit, he carries a gun and handles it, he receives a hit in the face, he kisses a gal - Tyne Daly - on the mouth...

That's totally different, but after all why not?
