Beyond the Blue shares a list of cast credits with Frat House Frolics (1979), with most of them applying to the former.
Beyond the Blue is inspired by the real life story of singer and beauty queen Anita Bryant's campaign against a pro-homosexual ordinance in the state of Florida in 1977. Actress Gloria Todd's character "Bonita Ryan" is a parody of Bryant.
Actor Alan Adrian's character name is censored out for the DVD release of Beyond the Blue. He plays the Governor of California but the audio track goes silent when the name is spoken. The character and the name are probably takeoffs on Jerry Brown who was governor during the incident being parodied in the film. Note Rick Iverson plays "Lt. Governor Mike Gutter," a parody of then California Lt. Governor Mike Curb.
Actress Robin Byrd plays "Linda Steadfast," a thinly-veiled parody of singer Linda Ronstadt who at the time was dating then California Governor Jerry Brown.
