Director Jim Enright liked writer Cash Markman's script for "Black Jack City" so much that he put it aside, saving it for a possible mainstream feature, and had Markman write a new script to be shot for the X rated market. Despite the downgrade, AVN critic Bill Caits wrote of this release, "(It) seems to move away from the traditional type of interracial video toward a more realistic and less idealized view of inner city life ... a fight scene, two killings, and believable dialogue are pluses." That original script - the better one - was never produced.
