Love and war with Tauno & Ansa, Kaarlo and Siiri
Petey-1027 October 2008
Serenaadi sotatorvella (1940) is a movie about war rehearsals held at the land of a big estate. The movie is directed by T.J.Särkkä and it's based on Toivo Kauppinen's play.It contains of many funny situations, like when Malakias makes the pea soup a little too salty or when there's a pipe found from that same soup. The love scenes between Malakias Paavonen and milkmaid Aleksandra are funny. They're played by the fantastic couple, Kaarlo and Siiri Angerkoski. They were both comically talented amazing actors, something that's very rare in Finland these days. And then there's Tauno Palo playing Jyrki Harteinen.Palo was a true movie star, one of our greatest actors of all time.He was born 100 years ago two days ago, on Saturday. He was often seen with Ansa Ikonen, also in this movie. She plays Oili Mäkipalo. What a great match they made. What a beauty and what a talent were combined in this heroine of ours.Toppo Elonperä plays the gaffer Korni-Mikko who gets to live his youth again with the soldiers.Ossi Elstelä plays Kullervo Tiainen while Jalmari Rinne is Sylvester Sointuperä.Kauko Käyhkö (also singer) is Raakki-Kustaa.This farce was made when the Second World War had already started.I think laughter was something we needed back then. And this movie gives you just that.
