Brazilian Sexploitation
Andre20108 October 2005
I've seen this movie a long time ago in an obscure Brazilian movie cable channel, its a cheap exploitation movie, with lots of nudity and sex thrown into the movie for no reason at all, not that I'm against that, I'm no hypocrite, just that these are all blunt, poorly-done sex scenes, that range from masturbation (the mother in the bed), to pedophilia (when noronha allows an old man to " pay a visit" to his younger daughter in her own room), to the shocking situation of having a father using his own daughters as prostitutes. But this movie has a satirical message in its heart, for all i known, its about the crumbling and the decadence of a traditional family's core and overall family values in the modern days and the hypocrisy that lies underneath the family's institution, with some cries for sexual liberation, during a time when Brazil was under a repressive military dictatorship...Despite the clumsiness of its social commentary and the trashy sexual aspects, it provides some moments of weird comedy, like the erect penises the mother (simply referred as "Gorda"-Fat) paints in the bathroom walls (since noronha cant provide her with any pleasure no more), to the climatic scene where noronha (the father)completely loses his mind because of their daughters's throwaway sexual behavior and throws his puritanism out the window, forcing the girls to "work" for him, using their own house as a whorehouse! Lima Duarte's performance is what stands in this movie that doesn't belong to the sex department, and it surprised me, since I've only seen this actor playing more straight-edged, conventional characters on some Brazilian soap operas and Portuguese/Brazilian movies (like his magnificent role of Padre António Vieira on "Palavra e Utopia"). Here, he gives a maniacal portrait of a family man that starts the movie as an overprotective father and then crumbles into a complete pervert, shedding his false morals. Not a great movie, but if you like cheap trashy cinema, you might get a look outside the john waters realm...

Grotesque and mysoginous sexploitation/pornochanchada
guisreis16 April 2020
Disgusting and grotesque mysoginous text by Nelson Rodrigues. However, Neville D'Almeida directs very well and Edson Santos's cinematography is very beautiful, making Seven Kittens a unique pornochanchada (Brazilian sexploitation genre). Ridiculous trash gore end.

A really great Brazillian movie!

This is an really good example of movie! It's not like that cheesy comedies like "American Pie", "Scary Movie"; it's also not that kind of silly super-hero movies like "Matrix", "xXx" and another craps. This is almost like a real documentary of the real life. It's that kind of movie that you need to watch to wake up for certain things.Non-Brazilian people, follow my advice: Watch this movie - it's a classic! Since the beginning, until the end, the situations starts to happen all the time; a lot of comic situations. A lot of tragic, or horrible, situations. And it's really great! One last advice: If you wish to learn and understand a bit more from the brazillian society, you should watch this. May you became disappointed about the brazillian society after that...

A terrifying portrait of reality.

Warning: Spoilers
This is exactly what i could understand from this movie. Many people look at it, and go after it when they see the very funny comedy scenes, the parts that are commonly, not to say only, shown through the internet.

I can say that using myself as an example, i've gotten to this movie with "comedy" as the main and only thought i had about it. The funny scenes, that are many, in this movie, were the ones that caught my attention and made me go after it.

But something really surprised me. I had a terrible, distorted vision of this movie before watching, because some of the sites i've taken a look about this movie told it was a Comedy Movie, or a PornoComedy. When it's not even close to it.

I began watching the movie, and met the first scene that is very funny indeed. But after it... I could truly notice it was something more, something MUCH MORE valuable than just funny scenes and sex.

I've finished watching, and was really disturbed for what i've seen. Because it was one of the first times in my life, that i could see, so clearly, ALL movie types in ONE movie.

It's about comedy, with a lot of scenes, the scene with all the flying dicks that were drawn in the bathroom, the one about Noronha sending his daughter to look for a job, but never told her the job was being a prostitute, the one where Gorda, his wife, confesses the reason she's unhappy.

But it has many things other than that, it's about Drama, when you hear Silene's tale, how she was problematic, and the moment her father finds out about her pregnancy, and goes crazy, saying that his house can now be a sexual paradise for all men.

Not only that, but it has many terrifying scenes, such as the one Noronha tells everyone the vision he had in the Dark Mirror, or when you look deeper at how he gone evil, or how Silene can be cold sometimes.

It has Horror in it, such as the scene where Silene, for no reason, kills a pregnant cat, even with the fact SHE was the one that liked it the most. Killing it, not only that, but killing her while she was having kittens, as said by Dr. Portella "Have you seen, Noronha, a corpse giving birth? Death and Life being so close? I have."

It has sex in it, but it's not even close to being the movie's focus. It's such a brilliant mix of feelings, of types, that i don't even know how to explain it. The things i've felt during this movie, were much different than what i'm used to, i've almost cried for laughing, but after it i almost cried because of the horror, and sadness of the situation, i was highly disturbed by some scenes, and entertained by others that came seconds later.

I can't really understand how some people can underrate this movie, because they thought it would be a comedy, and it ended up being something much more different than it. That's were gold is, because it portrays everything in our lives, all the feelings, all the common situation, in such a terrifying and crazy atmosphere, that can be disturbing and entertaining at the same time.

Sincerely, this is one of the best movies i've seen until now, for just this reason. For giving me so many surprises, and for breaking so many distorted opinions i had before seeing it. It's nothing, but a terrifying portrait of our lives, our social and moral values, and what's happening nowadays.

It even brings up the discussion about what's happening nowadays. It's our values that are being broken, and that being a bad thing, or the fact we are just letting go of some things that we shouldn't have, just to achieve what the human beings deserve, Freedom.

It's a very special movie,o unique, i'd say. An amazing masterpiece from Nelson Rodrigues, indeed.
