There's some merit to even a slightly hokey movie.

I guess some people see only one side of the bell curve and the other, but there are a lot of movies that, while not even remotely in the Oscar category, are still worth a watch. "Kiss Of A Stranger" is one of them. Sure, it is a low-budget piece, but the acting isn't bad and the plot twists give it some interest at the conclusion.

The opening song, "Another Night Alone" sung by Deborah Holland has a smooth torch song feel to it, and is well done by her (lip-synched by Dyan Cannon). As the story progresses, the movie draws the viewer in, and gives a great "punch line" ending to explain the plot.

Not every movie watched has to be a "Gone With The Wind", or, conversely, a "Plan 9 From Outer Space"...there's plenty in the middle to be entertained by.

If it's on late-night cable sometime, or a copy is gathering dust on the DVD shelf of your video store, give it a try.

A Strange Little Film That Will Hold One's Interest
jamie-8112 December 1999
This film had some good moments, a good cast, and plot that hold's your interest at best. The are many flaws in this film, but it is one of those movies that are great to watch at 2:00 in the morning - when one has insomnia. Note: Dyan Cannon (at age 61) looks and sounds better than ever...

Hey...busy? No? Good... let's make a movie

What is an cool concept, and has a good cast, turned into a totally predictable, snoozy, sometimes silly flick.

OK, so she falls for schmaltzy, cliche-ridden, new-age psycho-babble and takes Mr. Goodbody home. Right... OK, so after 1 tryst she's in love. Right... OK, so after 1 tryst she decides to surprise her new "love of her life" at work with her friend in tow. Right... OK, so after 1 month of not seeing or hearing from this fella she freaks out after glimpsing him... wonderfully back-lit I might add. Right...

And what's up with Dyan Cannon lip-synching and trying to be fabulous as Ms. Pop Star?? Waste of her (and Mariel's) talent on this on.

The token gay friend/colleague character was a little cliche. Nice stereotype to perpetuate; that all gay men drop their friends like a hot potato after stealing glances at "Mr Right Now" in a theater. Nice...

In case I'm not clear... Kiss this one goodbye.

Too funny. Take a mediocre cast - at best -- write some dialogue for them - and do it in about 2 hours, then get a very inexpensive crew, cheap stock, cheesy sets, and shoot away.

I like almost everything - but this was too much. The dialogue will come to you about 5 minutes before the characters get to it.The direction, which is as elementary as a high school film class, barely exists. The camera seems to be just another bad piece of this horrible film.

I keep trying to find something nice to say about it. Well, Deborah Holland, who sings for Ms. Cannon has a pleasant voice.

Okay, I guess it was so bad that we laughed through it all. So, it kept us watching.

Very Interesting.

Nova, the star of the movie, has a show with her gay friend. They care a lot about each other. Also Nova has a popular singer mother. After a one night stand with a man who calls himself Nathan, whom Nova met at one of her mother's singing events, things turn ugly. Nova discovers she is pregnant, but after consoling with her ex-rocker, druggie father, she decides to keep the baby. Not the greatest, but worth seeing.

Very DUMB Movie
nytebyte6 November 2000
I just watched this movie, and it SUCKED. Mariel Hemingway's character was written as being incredibly shallow and stupid to have done some of the things she did. Dyan Cannon was at one time an attractive woman... but in this film, I'm sorry to say I actually found her... well... LESS than attractive at times...

Aside from prettyboy Matt Battaglia as Nathan Leigh, and the always lousy David Carradine, the acting wasn't too horrible... Corbin Bernsen did a good job with what he had to work with, and it honestly was a pleasant surprise to see Robert Walden ["Joe Rossi" from the old "Lou Grant" tv series].

The plot takes some pretty sick, twisted, and laughable turns at times. Aside from seeing some mediocre acting in an extremely poorly written movie, watching this one was a waste of time. You'll find more entertainment on The Weather Channel.

Lots of surprises. Best is seeing Matt's butt. Dyan Cannon and Mariel Hemingway are great. I liked the way it made it a story not just about Mariel (Nova) but about her family and gay friend, who was well done. The father is played realistically.
