Chintzy
Pornographer Paul Norman (whose dad was a noted Hollywood writer in the Mainstream) was famous for his gimmick movies, but this one is quite simple and strictly mediocre.
The Mike Nichols pun title is explained: Tom Byron and P. J. Sparxx make love on his birthday, after which she gives him an invitation to the Carnival of Knowledge. They go there, but this movie is so cheap there's no transportation, just walking through a wooded area till they find a nondescript old house at the address printed on the invite.
Going inside, they find it empty -like a wild goose chase, but The Barker shows up and leads them around for the rest of the show. He's played by director Jim Enright, wearing a black cape and with a pasted-on Salvador Dali style moustache.
He has magical powers, only demonstrated by him snapping his fingers to transport them in or out of the house. The carnival exists just of couples making love, for them to watch. Sparxx gets exacerbated early on and runs away but Enright catches her and transports her back to the house. Eventually they have group sex with T. T. Boy and a very beautiful young Shayla LaVeaux.
There's no real ending, just Byron & Sparxx making love again as the camera pans over to focus on the Invitation card. The advertising copy on the box cover imitates the description that narrated the intro to "The Twilight Zone" series, a fake come-on.
