A taxi explodes in Stockholm, killing the driver and the passenger. At the same time Gunvald Larsson runs over and kills a little girl on his way to work.
When push comes to show, the passenger in the taxi proves to be an illegal immigrant smuggling cesium instead of paying to be smuggled. So while Beck and Klingström tracks down the men behind the operation, Larsson is wrought with grief and guilt, trying to reconcile himself with the bitter realities of life.
I really enjoyed this film. The story is good, the directing is good and the acting - especially that of Mikael Persbrandt - is very good. It is also an important film to watch in terms of continuity and character development, if you are a follower of this series. In later films Gunvald Larsson will appear as a snotty, snobbish psychopath, but if you watch the scene in this film where Larsson comes home to Beck late at night and tells him the story of his father's disappearance, you will find him much more sympathetic.
