Really do not know what the problem is with the person(s) still continuing with the serial down-voting review abuse, despite being told not to (and it is imperative that it doesn't happen again for risk of ill health getting worse), in a way that has been dishonest, insulting (clearly doing it without even reading the reviews) and excessive. That there seems to be this negative obsession of me and my reviews has not only been upsetting but it is starting to really freak me out, as it feels like bullying.
It also is sickening that it is escalating with knowledge of my vulnerability and how over-anxiousness (which this has been causing) has contributed to health problems without seeming to care, seemingly taking pleasure in it, and they are not welcome to go near me. Now back onto something much more relevant, sorry that really needed to be said as this is an abnormal situation. Although their later output suffered from tighter deadlines and lower budgets, especially in the late 50s and the 60s, Famous Studios' cartoons were on the most part watchable and more. Actually liked to loved a lot of them, if more those from the 40s which generally was the studio's best and most consistent decade. So there is no bias for or against them, really try not to be biased towards or against any studio and the same goes for actors/actresses, musicians and directors.
'The Goal Rush' is neither among the best or worst of Famous Studios' Noveltoons series and is something of a middling effort if needing to rank their work. It is very much worth a one time watch (not repeated viewings though), especially for the animation and music, but for a cartoon made in Famous Studios' best decade part of me couldn't help feeling a bit underwhelmed and a bit conflicted as to what my thoughts were on it. When torn or indecisive, that is not the best of positions and has been known to frustrate people whenever a decision has had to be made.
Sometimes begin a review with the good things but will get the not so good stuff out of the way this time. Humour-wise, there are moments in 'The Goal Rush' but they could have come more consistently and had more freshness and crisper timing. There could have been more gags and what there are tend to be a bit tired and corny, other Noveltoons cartoons do that worse though. Best forgetting the story as it is basically barely existent and more a series of too far and between gags and pleasant enough but not particularly inspired sing-along.
More energy was needed too, which would have made the above a little more forgivable perhaps. The momentum was not tight enough and none of the characters are distinct in personality so they are neither interesting or endearing. Nothing here is done dreadfully, it just feels on the routine and bland side.
Having said all of this, there are a fair share of merits. Primarily the animation and music, with the latter getting the slight edge and like its own major character. The music was consistently of a high standard throughout the studio's run even in lesser efforts. The orchestration has a lot of energy and there are some truly luscious sounds throughout. The songs are very catchy and don't grate. The animation was not as consistent for the studio overall, with the quality declining when the studio did but throughout the 40s to mid-50s it was a strength. As one can tell, to me it was one of the compensations here, gorgeous colours and the attention to detail in the backgrounds is worthy of admiration.
It does start off promising, has a few grin-worthy moments, the excitement and danger of football is captured and while the voice actors are not at their best the voice acting is still competent.
Summing up, an inoffensive one time watch but not an awful lot special here. 5/10
