Just So You Know Where It's Set....
boblipton15 September 2022
Pearl Pureheart is dancing in wooden shoes between the tulips and the windmills. Oilcan Harry will eventually kidnap her and prevent Mighty Mouse from rescuing her from his clutches by forcing him to prevent the dikes from giving way.

Paul Terry was still spending money on full production values with this Mighty Mouse cartoon; full animation, elaborate character design, and candybox background work. True, the story is still the same story, and it's aimed squarely at the kids, but that was Terry's audience, and even Termite Terrace was showing some fatigue, simplifying design and creating 'sequels' that used the same gags by this point.

There's nothing you can do to get me to like a Mighty Mouse cartoon, but this one is competently done.

A typical Mighty Mouse cartoon transplanted to Holland
llltdesq13 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is a short in the Mighty Mouse series produced by Terrytoons. There will be spoilers ahead:

The Terrytoons studio generally followed formulas on their cartoons. Of all the series they did, the Mighty Mouse shorts may have been the most formulaic of all. They were typically enjoyable, but the basic story arc is pretty simple and similar from short to short.

Here. the setting is Holland, but apart from the wooden shoes, flowers and windmills, it could be set in Brooklyn or Timbuktu and not miss a beat. Boy mice court girl mice, there's dancing and singing, Oil Can Harry pursues and captures Pearl Pureheart, pretty much all of the plot conveyed by singing, with little to no dialog.

Pearl laments her fate, singing for Mighty Mouse to (once again) come to her rescue. Mighty Mouse obligingly appears, Harry panics and flees with Pearl and the chase is on. Mighty mouse looks like he has the upper hand (here, he actually spanks Harry like a small, spoiled brat) when the tables get turned and Mighty Mouse is placed in some dramatic position while Harry grabs Pearl again at takes off to place her in peril yet again.

Mighty Mouse resolves his problem, chases after Harry, rescues Pearl and catches Harry to triumph once again, as always.

Worth watching once.
