Magoo the racetrack gambler
llltdesq3 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a Mister Magoo short done by the UPA Studios. There will be spoilers ahead:

Magoo opens the cartoon by lecturing Waldo on the wisdom of saving money securely in the bank. Heading out to the bank, Magoo winds up at the racetrack, where he mistakes the ticket windows as tellers and makes a long shot bet thinking he's made a deposit.

His bet comes in, Magoo thinks the comments of one of his friends has started a "run" on the "bank", so he makes a rousing speech encouraging them to leave their money in the bank. His words include the name of another entry in the next race, which Magoo and many other bet on and it wins.

Magoo basically does this often enough that the track officials kick him out for touting races. Magoo leaves with a mountain of cash (his winnings) which he thinks is the interest on his "deposit". It's a good short.

The Magoo theatricals and a Magoo feature film have been released on DVD in a four disc box set from Shout! Factory. The set and this short are both excellent. Recommended.
