It was a comback movie of Nutan and Asha Parekh in main roles after a long time.
It was a big hit of its time. And surprising too as it had two top stars of the past returning to the screen. Nutan and Asha Parekh.
Based on a Marathi novel titled Ashi Tujhi Preet by Chandrakant Kakodkar.
Vijay Anand was living in Rajneesh's Pune ashram when Raj Khosla approached him for the film. Vijay hesitantly agreed to do the film. Raj Khosla over shot the film and did not edit it. Khosla was embarrassed to show Vijay the final product that he made. He had trial showings but never invited Vijay Anand for any of them. Vinod Khanna was the Bombay distributor for the film. He opted to leave Vijay Anand out of the posters. Vinod Khanna finally stated he did this under the strict instructions of Raj Khosla. Vijay Anand had no idea why Khosla would do such a thing. They were friends for oved 20 years. Vijay Anand never confronted Raj Khosla over the matter.
There were several stories in the media that Nutan was not happy with the film's title as it was based on Asha Parekh's character. Nutan denied this and stated when she signed the film she already knew it was a remake of a Marathi film.
